The next morning, Avery woke up with a sense of unease gnawing at her stomach. She reached for her phone and sent a text to Harper, hoping to check in on her and perhaps make plans to catch up. But as the hours passed and there was no reply, Avery's unease only grew.

Throughout the day, she couldn't shake the feeling of worry that nagged at the back of her mind. Was Harper okay? Had something happened? Avery couldn't help but replay their last conversation in her head, trying to pinpoint if there had been anything amiss.

As the day stretched on, Avery's thoughts circled back to their last interaction, the memory playing over and over in her mind like a broken record. She couldn't shake the feeling of Harper's lips on hers, the warmth of her touch, the whispered confessions that had hung in the air between them.

But as much as Avery tried to push the memory aside, it lingered like a ghost, haunting her every thought. Had Harper remembered their intimate moment? Was that why she was avoiding Avery now?

The uncertainty gnawed at Avery's insides, filling her with a sense of dread. She couldn't bear the thought of losing Harper, not after everything they had been through together. And yet, the silence from Harper only seemed to confirm her fears.

Avery finally made it to school. Avery's heart sank as she spotted Graham across the school courtyard, his phone held in his hand as he furrowed his brow in concentration. She hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to approach him, but the gnawing curiosity got the better of her.

With a deep breath, Avery squared her shoulders and made her way over to where Graham was standing, her footsteps slow and hesitant. As she drew nearer, she could see the faint lines of worry etched into his features, a stark contrast to his usual easygoing demeanor.

"Hey, Graham," Avery greeted him tentatively, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Graham looked up from his phone, a surprised expression crossing his face as he registered Avery's presence. "Oh, hey, Avery," he replied, his tone polite but guarded.

Avery couldn't help but notice the way Graham's eyes flickered nervously toward his phone as if he were hiding something. A sinking feeling settled in the pit of her stomach, a nagging suspicion taking root in her mind.

"I was just texting Harper," Graham explained quickly as if anticipating Avery's unspoken question. "She's not feeling well today, so I thought I'd check in on her."

Avery's heart clenched at the mention of Harper's name, her worry for her friend only deepening. "Is she okay?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.

Graham shrugged, a helpless look crossing his face. "I'm not sure," he admitted. "She didn't say much, just that she wasn't feeling great. I offered to bring her some soup or something, but she said she wasn't hungry."

Avery nodded, a knot of anxiety tightening in her chest. She wanted to ask Graham more questions, to pry for any information about Harper's state of mind, but she knew she couldn't betray Harper's trust like that. Instead, she forced a small smile and thanked Graham for checking in on her friend.

As she walked away, Avery couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered in the air.

As the day dragged on, Avery's worry for Harper only grew, festering like a dark cloud looming over her thoughts. With each passing hour, her mind raced with unanswered questions, her anxiety gnawing at her insides like a relentless beast.

Despite her best efforts to focus on her classes, Avery found herself constantly checking her phone, hoping for a message from Harper that never came. She tried to push aside the nagging sense of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach, but it was a futile effort.
