It was a very cold night, as always on Copper 9, hitting the negatives. Due to how cold it was, there were the sounds of faint footsteps crunching in the snow throughout the forest. The drone was holding a backpack in her arms, letting out sharp, heavy breaths.
Her hands and clothes had either hers or someone else's oil stained on them as it dripped into the snow, turning it black and leaving a trail along with her footprints. She was running, but from what? She kept looking back to make sure no one was following her.
SLAM
The door to the abandoned cabin swung open, letting in snow and cold air slamming against the wall and almost breaking it off its hinges before it slammed shut again. Her ears rang, and it hurt.
Her metal skin felt so hot that her visor was showing purple sweat running down it. She kept getting warning messages about overheating, yet she couldn't do anything about it. She blocked off the door and windows with whatever she could find and collapsed in the middle of the room, holding her head in her hands.
Her breathing was heavy, and she felt hungry. She was abnormally hungry. She took her hands off her head and looked down at her oil-stained hands. It got a rise out of her for some reason. She turned to her bag and reached over to unzip it and look inside. A worker drone arm lay there, along with other parts covered in oil.
Her eyes widened. She couldn't control herself when she pulled one of the parts out. The sound of oil could be heard dripping onto the floor. It looks like a core from a drone that had been ripped out awhile ago that she had stolen, probably for situations like these.
Her mouth was salivating at the sight of it. She didn't want to, but she couldn't help it. Her mouth opened, and she took a bite into it, causing oil to squirt into her mouth and onto the floor. The need to feed was way too strong for her to control.
Meanwhile
There was another drone walking around the forest. She seemed on edge and was looking for someone. Her footprints looked circular, and she had her weapons drawn. Thankfully, this planet was covered in snow, so it made it easier to see at night.
The snow crunched with every step she took. She was tense and worried. Her expression could only be described as concerned, as she mumbled out of annoyance and worry at the same time.
"Where the hell did she go?"
She was looking for Uzi; she had fled without any sort of trace, or so she thought. She noticed a certain smell she was familiar with, turned her head, and saw footsteps and droplets of oil along with a "target missing" message.
She could feel her core beating faster just from seeing the oil. Multiple things went through her head, but the thing that went through her head the most was, "Is she hurt?"
And without a second thought, she ran as fast as she could, following the small droplets of oil.
In the snow, she was running on pure adrenaline. At this point, she eventually made it to the outside of a cabin, where she could hear someone. It sounded familiar.
Inside the cabin
Uzi was on the floor in tears, lying there. Her entire body trembled. She was so nauseous and had a hand over her mouth. Her bag was spilled out on the floor with a couple of worker drone parts. She couldn't believe what she had done.
She felt disgusted when she looked at her oil-stained hands; could she even look at her the same after this? Could she even look at herself the same way after this? Her body curled up on the floor even more due to these thoughts; they hurt more than what she had just gone through.
Her breathing wouldn't calm down, no matter how much she tried. How much she had been crying for, god knows, how long made her voice hoarse, her throat hurt, and she was probably damaged from how long she had been overheating V saw her like that... in that form. Could V even look at her the same? She looked so frightened by her appearance earlier.
There was a brief moment of silence when her crying calmed down before she suddenly heard the door banging. Someone was trying to kick it down. She froze before she sat up. She didn't realize who it was till she heard her name being loudly called with another bang.
"UZI!"
Another bang followed before the door finally broke open, sending a few wooden pieces of it flying into the cabin. She covered her face with her arms to avoid any wooden chunks hitting her. Before she heard someone run into the cabin, she was shocked to see that V had come looking for her.
"Are you alright? You're not hurt anywhere, are you?"
V kneeled down and cupped Uzi's face with her hands. Both of them were breathing heavily. Uzi's arms slowly lowered. She wanted to speak, but she couldn't. She was still in shock about what happened and how it all went by so fast that it didn't even feel real.
"Uzi."
Uzi snapped out of her thoughts, her eyes widening. She felt V brush some of her hair away from her face with her hand. It seemed like she was trying to get her to calm down, but she couldn't make out what she was saying due to this ear-piercing ringing she heard in her ears. V seemed to look more panicked until she could only see pitch black. She didn't realize she had fallen unconscious and was put into sleep mode due to overheating for so long.
V caught Uzi in her arms, panicking. She pulled her face up to look her in the eyes and saw that her visor was completely black for a moment, which caused her core to race. She thought she had died right then and there, but before she saw the purple-colored sleep mode on the message, she sighed, relieved that she had just passed out.
V looked around the cabin; it was wrecked, and there was a puddle of oil underneath Uzi, along with her bag contents spilled out on the floor. She didn't know what to make of it; she just wanted to get her to a safer place to rest.
"Come on.."
V pulled her closer, kissing her on the head before putting her arms under her legs and back, picking her up. She made sure to have a tight grip on her, running her hand along her back for comfort before it ran up to her head and pushed it against her shoulder.
"I'll take you back. Just rest for now."
V then sighed before walking out with Uzi in her arms. She just hoped that everything would be okay after she woke up.————————————————————————————————————————————————-
