darryl's pov

i leaned on the door frame as i watched zak pack things like his photos, some figurines, his favourite candies, and other things that i couldnt really identify in his backpack. questions like "were we gonna survive?", "is the bunker strong enough?", and "are the news even real?" started flooding my mind and i started to space out. but that soon came to an end as zak was shaking me back and forth, yelling my name repeatedly.

"DARRYL!! DARDAR!!! DARRRYYYYLLLL!!!!!!!! DARRYL NOVESCHOSCH!!!!!" zak exclaimed as he continued shaking me.

"wh-WHAT?" i grabbed zaks arms and threw them away from me lightly, trying not to hurt him as much.

"im scared," zak pouted as he pulled out the 'a' in 'scared'.

i sighed. "its gonna be okay, the bunker is gonna be strong enough and we'll survive."

"you sound like your trying to convince yourself instead of me! dar, i was joking when i said that i was scared. well, partially. but im sure we'll survive, given the fact you have unlimited food in there." zak attempted to comfort me. it worked a bit, but not enough.

next think i knew, zak wrapped his arms around me and dug his face into my shoulder. "i know you hate hugs, but i think you might need this one," he said in a muffled voice.

i hesitated but ended up returning the hug, and i could just feel zak grinning his goofy smile.

"YAY!! YOU GENUINELY HUGGED ME BACK!" zak jumped up and down in excitement. have i really not sincerely hugged him in so long?

it fell silent as we just enjoyed our super rare hug.

"wow.. youre really short," i broke the silence with a snicker, attempting to lighten up the mood.

"WHAT?! youre only 3 inches taller!"

"and 3 inches is a lot!"

"is not! i am the average height, youre just a giraffe."

i jokingly scoff as i pull away from the hug. zak didnt seem to like that, as he started huffing and pouting.

"cmon you big baby," i giggle. "i have to go home anyway."

"but its only 5 pm!" zak whined.

"FIVE?! its 10 pm, zak!" i quietly shouted, since i didnt want to wake up his mom or sister incase they were asleep.

zak sighed as he closed his bag and dragged it to his door. he lead me to his front door, where we exchanged goodbyes and i started my walk back home.

. . .

i groaned as i turned off my alarm for the second time. instead of going back to sleep, i decided to check my phone to see how much time i had left to get ready. but what i did not expect was to see "8:41 am". i was an hour late.

i hurriedly jumped out of bed and ran to my bathroom, splashing my face with cold water and quickly brushing my teeth. i ran back into my room, wearing my usual black hoodie with a red striped hood and favorite black sweatpants. i slid on my black converse as i threw my school bag on my shoulder. sprinting across the hall and out my front door, i dashed my way to school since it was an 8 minute walk.

as i continued dodging people and mumbling apologies, thoughts started overwhelming my head.

god.. what am i gonna even tell the teacher when i get there?

how did i sleep past my alarm?

oh my goodness, i've never been late before..

what if i get detention?

and i cant escape to go to the bunker..

then i'll die!

if that happens, zaks gonna be all alone.

fudge! what about skeppy?!

does skeppy know about the asteroid? after i went over to zaks house, skeppy never texted me.

all i want right now is skeppy and zak.

i-

my stuff, including my bag and a few books i was holding in my arms, were sent flying while i stumbled to the ground, ripping my pants and scraping my knees badly. i watched as the concrete beneath me was quickly smeared in blood vertically across where i slid. i hurried to pick up my things and turned around, expecting to see the person who caused this to be standing there, apologizing. what i did see though was someone with their hood up, presumably the person, running away.

i sighed as i pulled out wet wipes from my backpack and wiped the concrete. if i left the blood to rot there, someone wouldve called the police thinking there was a murder or something.

i picked myself up and continued to drag myself to school. it took me a few minutes, but i was able to see the familiar building. when i stood in front of the school though, i had a sudden gut feeling of forgetting something. i started rummaging through my bag, making sure i had everything.

after i made sure that nothing was missing, i closed my backpack up again. my brain started slowly drifting away from reality as i started thinking about skeppy again.

"BOO!" i heard someone exclaim while they aggressively (yet not too hard to hurt me) grabbed my shoulders, bringing me back to reality.

"EEEKKK!!!" i screeched and turned around to see whos responsible for the jumpscare. as expected, the one guilty of this was zak.

"oh my god, dont scare me like that, zak!" i yelled as he chuckled and patted my back. i felt stares burning into my skin, but decided to ignore it.

"cmon, i had to! if i didnt, it wouldve been the perfect chance lost."

i sighed, slightly giggling at my girly scream. "are you.. ready?"

"for school? hell no. that shits boring."

"LANGUAGE!" i interrupted.

he gave me a dirty look before continuing. "but for the asteroid.." he paused.

"i think im ready."
