New school. New people. I haven't done this in two years. I'm not ready. I had the same dream last night. I'm sitting next to Mariam and suddenly a white flash beams through the front door. When I try to look at it, a figure stands in front of me. A white figure. All I can point out is the figures smile, it smiles just how dad used to. When I try to run to it, I just feel the room getting darker and darker, as if everything was falling apart. I always wake up with my pillow soaked in my tears. I'm not ready. I can't, I won't go to school. Then the thought of Mariam's facial expression when the therapist told her I could begin school came into my mind. Even though Mariam and I never really talked, I could tell she was happy to have me returning to a "normal life". I looked at the clock which showed 6:40.
"Holy sh---"
I put on my old gray converse with dark blue skinnies and the new shirt that Mariam had just bought me. It was purple with a floral design all over, pretty cute but Mariam shouldn't have, we don't have the money to be spending it like if nothing. I guess you can say its pretty ungrateful to think like that but it's the truth. By the time I finished it was already 6:57am and I had to run to the bus stop before the bus got there.
"What a great day. What a wonder perfect start to my first day of school."
That is all that I kept saying while walking, well running, to the bus stop. After rushing and finally making it to the bus stop, the bus was nowhere to be found. At this point I would have been worried but the group of kids waiting for the same bus assured me that I was not late.
"Hi there! I've never seen you here, are you new?"
I turned around and this preppy brunette haired hazel eyed girl was staring straight at me. Remain calm. This could be my first chance to make a new friend.
"Yeah. My name is Natasha, I just moved--"
"I'm Melissa, but you can call me Mel. I know everyone and everything that happens in Harold Jones High School. I hope I see you around!"
Okay. That went fine I think. I thank God for the bus coming in that moment because I honestly couldn't take more of Ms. Popular. I walked into the bus and sat by myself. Totally normal. Nothing more has gone wrong. I arrive at my destination, Harold Jones High. Never thought I would ever see a school again. Surprisingly I found were the office was with no problem thanks to a very nice janitor named Scar. Well that isn't his name but, close enough.
"Hello dear, how may I help you this morning?"
"I'm Natasha Gording, I'm here to receive my schedule. I'm new."
"Well of course dear, we've heard a lot about you! How do you like the school?"
Heard a lot about me? Good? Bad? Oh let me say something before she looks at me weird!
"It's nice."
Okay so English, culinary, drama, and Pre cal on A days. Anatomy, physical education, accounting and American government on B days. No so bad. Now my only worry is where is my English class located at.
"Natalie! I mean Natasha!"
I turned around and right in front of me was Ms. Popular herself.
"You should definitely eat lunch with me today! What lunch do you have? I always sit in the middle table inside so, you can find me there, well bye bye kiss kiss love ya"
Relax Natasha. Each class isn't even an hour today. According to my culinary teacher I would have 3rd lunch. Normally I wouldn't mind but today for some reason I was starving. I guess the nerves. When the 3rd lunch bell rang, I ran to get my lunch.
"Natasha! Here! Sit here!"
Oh the joy. Melissa has spot me.
"Natasha! You have to tell me everything! How was your first day?"
"It's nice."
"I have to see your schedule, show me! Show me!"
Can this lunch be over? How long is it anyway? Can this DAY be over?
"Oh my God! I have you for physical education and for drama! This is totally fab!"
Fab? Wow. Who saids that?
"Well the bell is about to ring so bye bye kiss kiss love ya!"
So I didn't have to eat my lunch in a bathroom stall all alone on my first day like those high school movies where the new kid isn't wanted. I see this as an accomplishment! The rest of the day went pretty well. Ms. Popular did sit next to me in drama and kept me from looking like a complete loner. I have to kind of be grateful for that. On the way home on the bus, I kept thinking about what the lady in the office said. "We've heard a lot about you!" What could that mean? Was I the new talk in the town? I just couldn't wait to get home.
