You picked your necessary things from your office, preparing for your lunch break. The guilt from cancelling your plans with Robert hasn't left your mind for the last few days and today you finally had the time to make up for it. Knowing Mike all these years, you knew he likes the stereotypical donuts so you bought a box of them and headed to the precinct, hoping to find Robert.
Walking inside, there was this familiar sound of phone calls, pens clicking, computer typing. Everyone seemed busy. Also, the smell of coffee was travelling all over the room, fresh, delicious coffee. You still hadn't spotted Robert but you were not giving up, you kept walking around.
"Lexi?" a voice scared you from behind your back.
"Oh my-" you managed to cut yourself off before seeming too scared.
"Did I scare you? I'm so sorry" Robert gently placed his hand on your shoulder for comfort.
"No, uhm, okay maybe just a little" you chuckled.
"I apologise again" he gave you a light squeeze.
"It's okay, don't worry about it" you smiled at him.
"What brings you here? Not a new case I hope" he wondered.
"No, God no. I'm here to find you actually" you admitted.
"Me?" he seemed shocked.
"Yes, I wanted to apologise in person for the other day" you said sincerely.
"Oh, I see. I completely understand, you didn't have to go through all this trouble" his voice was calm and friendly.
"I felt really bad, you didn't deserve that. Here, I brought you something" you lifted the bag you were holding that had the box donuts inside.
"You came bearing gifts?" he laughed beautifully.
"I know it doesn't make up for anything but it helps my consciousness" you joked.
"Let's go to my desk" he suggested.
You nodded and started walking there, him walking closely behind you. When you reached your destination, he took a seat on the one side of the desk and you sat on the outside of it. When you placed the box on his desk and opened it, he seemed surprised.
"Are donuts too stereotypical? I know Mike likes them" you asked in worry.
"No, no, they're fine. I'm just looking after my diet" he seemed skeptical.
"I'm sorry, I'll bring something else another time" you tried to close the box but he stopped you.
"One day of eating donuts won't hurt me" he smiled at you. "Besides, they look way too good for me to resist" he continued by taking one in his hand.
"As long as you're sure" you nodded.
He took the first bite out of it and looked very satisfied by the taste. It only made you smile in relief in front of him.
"So, how was your date?" he cleared his throat.
"What date?" you narrowed your eyes.
"I thought you were meeting your ex, you know... the model" he teased you.
"Oh, yeah I was. But not like a date, he just showed up unexpectedly and I couldn't ignore him" you explained.
"I understand" he wiped his hands after finishing the donut.
"Listen, I know you like me and I really like you, too. I don't want us to start this friendship on the wrong foot" he seemed frozen by your words.
"What do you mean you like me?" he gulped slowly.
