Zain kept waiting for Shirin at her Hotel lobby. She was nowhere to be seen. His phone was ringing non-stop, and he knew he had to fly back to Germany ASAP. He was in a strange dilemma. Leaving the table so many years ago, without any explanation, kept him awake for many nights, and he just didn't want to leave this time. Life had other plans and he must do some damage control otherwise there will be problems in the company, and he cannot afford that. He called Alex and asked him to book the earliest flight. Then he started typing a message...
.
.
Shirin entered the Café, feeling tired and somewhat defeated. She had no mood or energy to discuss work anymore. She just wanted to go back to the hotel and crash onto her Bed. She was a little early, so she ordered an Espresso to energize herself. Rehaan already forwarded her some of the opportunities in Europe, she was happy to see that. Shirin was reading those emails and didn't realize till someone stood in front of her. "Shirin Roy?" she heard a female voice suddenly calling her name and she looked up. An elegant woman who was probably in her early 30s or late 20s was standing in front of her. She had short hair, and she was wearing a beige pantsuit.
:- Hi! Yes, I'm Shirin Roy. Sorry, but you are?
:- Hi. I am Nina Sengupta. Legal Advisor of Dreamscape Innovations and I think you know about me.
Nina extended her hand.
Shirin never felt so shaken while meeting someone. Nina held her arm a little tightly while shaking hands and not even for a second, she moved her eyes from Shirin.
:- I know you are waiting for Alex. The manuscript has been approved and you can go ahead with it.
:- Oh, Thank you. Shirin didn't know what else could she say. So she let Nina speak.
:- So Shirin, let's get to the point, shall we?
:- Okay.
:- So, you slept with my man. Obviously, you knew about me because after you received Zain's phone this morning, you left before I could reach there. I reached there to find the mark of your lipstick on his shirt and an earring on the floor. So, do you have anything to say?
:- I received your call by mistake. I didn't mean to. And I am really sorry for everything. Just so that you know, it wasn't Zain. I kinda made him not to receive your call last night and I think it is all my fault.
:- He is not a kid. Both of you are grown-ups. So, tell me Shirin, what are your plans? You do know what Zain went through in the past because of you, right? He was clinically depressed, and his therapy sessions just ended last year. You are toxic and harmful for him and...
:- I am not!
:- Excuse me?
:- I am not harmful for him. I said I am sorry. I really mean it. I didn't know what he went through. I am happy to see him successful. I don't want to break your relationship. I cannot explain last night. But I really don't want to hurt him or your relationship. It just... I just... Seeing him... Shirin couldn't complete her sentence and she was working hard to not let the tears fall.
:- I thought journalists are good with words. Especially someone of your stature, Shirin.
:- Huh?
Nina's phone rang and she received a quick call. Shirin tried not to overhear. Nina resumed the conversation from where she left.
:- Dreamscape Innovation is facing a few issues and Zain might need to leave for Munich soon. Talk to him and stop avoiding him!
:- Sorry?
:- Also, I am not his girlfriend. It was something he told you to hurt you. He will come clean if you give him the chance. I was just testing you. I could have dragged this a few more minutes, but as you can guess we are in the middle of a crisis.
:- Huhhh??
:- Truth is, I am just a friend. The rest you will hear from his mouth. The things I told you about him are all true. I think he needs either of two things.
:- What's that?
:- You. Or Closure. If you can give him any of those two things, though I think after last night, closure is no more on the table for him, please sort it out.
Before Shirin could say anything, her phone beeped.
"Rini,I just need you to hear me out. You should not feel guilty about last night. I have something to deal with urgently at work so I'm leaving tonight. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I will get back to you ASAP. I don't talk about something this important over messages. So Rini, could you not let me go this time, please?"
:- He is leaving!
Shirin said in a defeated tone.
:- Yes, as I said. We have a small crisis at hand. Keep in touch with him. And here's my card. I have your details already. I'll keep in touch with you, don't worry. But I need to go now because you know, my real boyfriend Nikhil is waiting for me in Germany.
:- Nikhil? Wow. Good to know!
:- I'm sure you feel good. Nina chuckled. So, Shirin from one woman to another, please think about everything carefully because you don't get a second chance every day. Anyway, it was nice meeting you, finally.
:- Thank you, Nina.
:- goodbye, Shirin.
