Patience

The night was a freezing night, the snow fell heavier than normal and the temperatures dropped to a low -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). The temperatures have been lower but it didn't get like this often. A violent snowstorm had occurred not too long ago. All the windows were practically clouded by the frost from outside. Tony sat idly at what used to be Jeff's work desk where he would make his tiny little gadgets, just staring at the frosty window. This had to have been the thousandth time he peeked outside that same icy window.

Tony already didn't like the cold so he despised the weather even more than usual. He was just glad he wasn't outside in the snowstorm, he could only imagine if someone had been walking in that storm for far too long.

He had been praying every night for Jeff's return, hoping that one day he would just burst through the door to their dorm randomly. But of course, it hasn't happened. As Tony sat longer at the desk, the more anxious he became. For some reason, he had a terrible gut feeling like he should be concerned about something. Tony was always a paranoid person, specifically for Jeff since he could be a little reckless sometimes.

He always wanted to know what he was doing or if he was okay but since Jeff hasn't answered his letters nor has he called him, he's been overthinking that something terrible had happened to him. This overwhelming concept had disturbed his train of thought, so even doing the most simplest task like completing the piles of homework and textbooks that sat untouched on the desk was just something he couldn't focus on. It just seemed easier to do when Jeff was in the same room as him.

Tony had been thinking nonstop about him all day and he didn't know exactly why. Well I mean, he always thinks about him but this time it was more than usual. Tony shook the thought out of his mind since he knew if he thought about it any more, it would only make it worse.

"I'm sure Jeff is alright.. he did promise me he would be safe throughout his journey. He also promised he would come back. Someday." Tony paused for a minute.

"But what if he never comes back? What if he doesn't keep the promises he made? Or what if he did intended to return but the violent snowstorm got to him first? Oh dear..."

It was too much for Tony to handle. Just the thought of Jeff being lost and injured somewhere made him sick to his stomach. Tony's eyes narrowed to the textbooks next to him. He grabbed a nearby pencil and decided to atleast try to concentrate on studying like he should've done hours ago. He thought to himself it would be the best thing to do to take his mind off of those horrible imagery.

Tony shifted his hips so he could sit comfortably in the chair. He flipped one of the English textbooks to a random page. Immediately, he felt an overwhelming feeling of boredom. His eyes painfully stared at the text of the pages. After 5 minutes, all Tony managed to accomplish was making himself feel doozy and tired. As he started to drift asleep, the pencil from his hand slipped between his fingers and dropped to the floor with a sudden thud. It jolted Tony wide awake, he quickly looked around to see what made that sound only to see it was his pencil.

Tony was considered to be a light sleeper and would wake up even to the smallest noises. It was partially due to when Jeff would pull all-nighers to repair his inventions. The loud mechanical sounds kept Tony up a lot of the time, sometimes even all night. After a while, Tony slightly got used to the night being very quiet ever since Jeff left.

Tony sighed out of frustration and slammed the textbook shut. He figured he'd do it another time. He suddenly had a weird feeling to just sit up and peer out window. He did this every night to check if Jeff happened to be walking outside like how he hoped so. Tony swiveled the chair around and stood upright from the desk and silently walked over to the icy window. It was barely visible to see through the glass so Tony wiped away some of the frost to take a peek outside. It was incredibly dark and all he could see was the gate to the Boarding school with only one Street lamp on. Tony sighed out of disappointment.

"I don't why I still bother to check.." Despite all the negative thoughts that appeared on his mind, he never lost hope on Jeff's return.

"Although, I really don't expect you to show up in this kind of weather.." Tony quietly mumbled to himself. He let out another sigh and turned away from the window. He decided it would be best to get some rest for tonight, it was already quite late anyway. Tony glanced at the digital clock sitting on the desk, the letters flashed 12:36.

"Oh my.. how long was I waiting on him now?"

Tony hadn't been able to get a good night sleep in a week. He had begun to grow dark circles under his eyes but he really couldn't care less. He stays up just to see if Jeff would come home when he was awake. All he wanted to do was to give him the biggest hug he could possibly offer. Just to hold him tightly in his arms and tell him over and over how brave he was. Tony desperately wanted to see his blond, genius, engineer boy he had loved for years. He missed the way Jeff would explain the small tiny details of how he would fix certain electronics or how he would talk about his passion for repairing broken, metallic objects. Oh... how Tony wished Jeff would be so passionate for him just like how he was for his weird inventions...

"I dearly miss him so much.. when will he come back? All I want is to see him again, that's it. Well, I actually want more than that. I want to clean his glasses again for him. I want to hug him for so long that we both fall asleep in each other's arms. I want to hold his hand and to kiss him.. All over.. Oh I just want to kiss his soft lips."

Tony blushed as he imagined it all, biting his bottom lip. Tony could only imagine that Jeff would just run up to him and confess that he loved him just the way he did. Of course, that would take a miracle to happen. Tony thought that Jeff would never reciprocate the same feelings he had for him.. he felt like they an unrequited love and that deep down if he had ever truly became honest of how he felt towards him, it would ruin what they have now.

Tony's eye's started to feel heavy with slumber but he still decided to take one last look outside before he headed to bed for the night. He peered out into the snow one last time. All he could determine outside was snow and pine trees. As Tony was about to back away, he suddenly noticed something from the corner of his eye. At first, he thought it was a wild animal looking for shelter in the hazardous snowstorm but the silhouette was far too big for it to be a feral animal. Tony finally recognized it as a person. Holy.. could it actually be Jeff? Could it be him? Please let it be him. Thoughts scattered everywhere around in his brain like a wildfire.

Tony's heart skipped a beat as he desperately leaned in closer, as close as he could get to the glass to see it more clearly. He tried to observe the details he could see but it was impossible due to the heavy snow. Tony swallowed against the huge lump in his throat and silently observed carefully. The silhouette started to move through the thick piles of snow, very slowly. They struggled to even get a step in. But after staring for a little longer, Tony knew it was Jeff. Yes.. yes! It was Jeff!
