All eyes were on me and that was the thing I never liked. The king looked at me like he still wasn't pleased with my presence. I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath in.
"May I your highness?" I asked him and he nodded reluctantly. My gaze inadvertently went to General's who was silently watching my every move and suddenly, the stage fear hit me, when I wasnt even standing on one!
"So for your question, Mr..." I looked at the fattie. "Mohan."
"Yes, Mr.Mohan, like you said the treasury would end, but the main question is, isn't the gold in the treasury for the people?" He looked as if I had asked him a tough question when infact it was the simplest question.
Did he take me for an idiot girl? Bruh.
I was really good in history back in school. The only subject I was good at.Disturbing. I know.
"It is but why should we spend everything on some crises like this? What about something happens afterwards." I seriously tooled my eyes at the one. Was he serious?
"Sir, who said we have to spend everything?" More heads turned over me and I took a deep breath in. Even taking the same breath as these stupid people felt like an insult.
"The Royals. Those people have enough money to help themselves. I was talking about the low class people, especially the ones who are directly affected by crises. Helping them with their financial issue would help us gain their trust, which as of now is the only thing we should focus on."
The king narrowed his eyes like he was thinking of something. His eyes met mine and I held my breath.
"Okay, let's assume we did that, then what? We can't just help them with the money, can we?" His question was valid, and that put me into thinking.
I did have an answer but I was unsure if I should speak it or not. Looking back at our history, we weren't on good terms and if spoke what was in mind, I wasn't really sure what he would cut first, my neck or my ass.
I nervously looked at general who, for a change had a calm look on his face. His eyes met mine and he nodded his head, signalling me to speak. I gulped and again looked at the king.
"You should personally go and meet them."
Silence
Dead silence.
I hated how I could even hear my breaths.
"What?" This time it was the general, who again had that fury on his face. He immediately took his sword out and was storming towards me when the king stopped him.
The king looked like he was really considering my opinion. "No general, let her speak. Gayatri, tell me more about it."
"I meant, you should actually go there and talk to them. I don't know if you know the real reason for why these disputes started. Well there is a reason, food shortage. But isn't it weird how everything just messed up all together? Who even instigated people to rob each other, instead of coming to you?"
"Yes your highness, we don't know who instigated them." One of the ministers spoke. King was lost in his thoughts when he looked at everyone.
"I'll go to meet the people tomorrow. Make the suitable arrangements. I don't want any mistakes." He ordered and I smiled, now I could save the painter.
"But your highness, this- you shouldn't be leaving the royal grounds." General insited and I glared at him why did he make everything difficult for me?
"No General, whateve this woman said-" I winced at his words and he cleared his throat.
"Gayatri, whatever Gayatri said is correct, if we ponder over it. If I go to them, they would believe more in me. I think this is a good start to win their hearts again." The king argued back but the general was about to argue back but was stopped by king's glare.
"Yes, your highness."
-
I was walking down the hallway, happy that I had succeeded in my first step. I just needed to find the person now and for that I needed to go outside of the palace.
I was yanked by a great force, a yelp making its way out of my mouth. A sharp pain travelling my body with the speed of light. I looked up to see- General.
Who else it could be?!!
"What are you doin-" he again pulled me by my arm and I winced at the pain. Glaring at him I stomped on his foot and he left my arm and groaned.
Bitch.
"Don't you dare touch me again, you jerk!" I screamed. His eyes changed their colours, not literally ofc. But the wrath in his eyes did make my stance waver a little bit.
"Who do you think you are?" He voice was calm unlike the fury which he was accumulating inside his body.
"Gayatri?"
"Do you think it's a joke to risk the King's safety?" His words did make sense but not to me, because I didn't care about anyone but myself. What would I do with the King's life? Play marbles with it?
I just wanted to get out of here.
By hooke or by killing someone.
"And why do you think, King shouldn't go and visit the people he is serving for?" He hissed at my response and took a step closer.
"Because we don't know who would attack him."
"Isn't that your duty to protect him?"
"It is, that's why I was not letting him out of the palace." I scoffed, literally scoofed at his answer. What did he call himself general for? To play Dandiya with the swords?
"You're giving an excuse now."
"Excuse?" His voice had gone an octave lower now.
"Listen here General, even the God leaves his temple to see the problems of his disciples, and the king- he is a mere human, but God for those who rely on him. If he wouldn't come out of his temple and look at the problems of his people..how would he solve them? How would he get to know the solutions to the everyday problems the population has to go through?" The general became silent. I left the bitch speechless. (Hair flip)
"I swear Ms.Gayatri, if something would happen to the king, I would kill you."
"If you are not capable of even protecting the King, then maybe I should go and stand beside him. I am not a coward like you who blames his incompetency onto others." I expressed, he was being a prick and I was doing my best to bring him back on line. He
Suddenly pulled me by shoulder and glared at me."Oh, Ms.Gayatri, I can show you how much of a competent person I am, by numerous ways but right now, I am not gonna waste my time on a useless girl like you." He jerked me back and walked by me.
"Listen here Ms.Gayatri, if this is one of your cheap plans to harm the king and the queen, then let me remind you that you would have to fight me first before reaching to them." I turned back with a scowl on my face.
"I would rather eat rat shit than be anywhere near you." He walked away muttering cursing.
Even dog wouldn't piss on his dead body.
