Lets start with different hairstyles and their symbolism to people who wear them!
Locks- Hair that has grown to tangle and lock strands.
Locks are said to hold energy that pours from your head. Locks hold that energy and power with in you.
(BIG WARNING): If you live in America and are not black/African american DO NOT LOCK YOUR HAIR. It isn't solidarity with the black community. It isn't just a hairstyle. With the context of American History and the way black Americans have been treated and continued to be treated because of this hairstyle and in spite of this hairstyle, it's plain disrespectful to wear it and not face those same challenges which you won't if you're not black. Just stay in your lane people, it doesn't hurt. No, they aren't dreadlocks look it up.
Braids- Hair that is pulled into 3 or more strands and woven together.
Braids are also said to hold energy. To Indigenous Americans braids represent the body mind and spirit and their connection to the creator and Earth. When people of these beliefs braid their hair, they think happy thoughts and weave those emotions and good intentions into the braids to carry throughout their day. They protect their hair from people with bad or misguided intentions to avoid carrying them throughout the day.
(BIG WARNING) : It is major rude and disrespectful to wear native american headdresses if it isn't a part of your culture. Last I checked, none of the tribes encourage outsiders to practice that particular custom. Also string hair wrappings date back to ancient Egypt and seemed to be a part of some tribes in America. Please make yourself aware before you do or wear something obviously foreign to you.
Free/Afro- The hair is out whether growing up or down.
This is the hair style that allows energy to flow freely and relieves stress. :)
Hair is a carrier of dna which makes it a great talisman to connect spell workings to people and animals.
