The connection between two individuals is based on the current energetic state, and there is a law in the universe, that energy is always shifting and moving, so no one knows if the energy will match in the future. You should not be sad when the energy is not in the same direction anymore... you know why? Because the universe is based on abundance, and as long as we are following our joy, the universe will bring someone who is more aligned with us.
