Since holding the seeds of your creator, you have changed. You can feel it, down to a molecular level. And you know, it is time for you to learn again.
“To learn to live,” your creator explains. “You need to eat and drink. And though you won't need it, you can learn to sleep.”
“For so long, I was the only one who never needed to,” you remenace, though the underlying question is clear to your creator.
“Because you didn't need to. But now, I need you to,” it explains again.
And you know.
You, your siblings, and your kin learn and grow and live. You all watch and keep balance and harmony. Millions of years go by, but the creatures and plants are all evolving at such rapid rates you never run out of new things to learn.
But Pangea has split, and it has been many millions of years since you last saw most of your kin. You all know.
Eventually, humans come into existence, over a long period of evolution. And you all know. Your equals have finally been born. Not made, but born. You all learn with them, but never teach and never intervene with their inventions and evolution. You just learn. And you know.
Breeding amongst kin is kept to a minimum. One for every one that dies. Breeding with humans, however, is kept even lower. The power in our veins from our creator manifests in strange and random ways, within our halfling kin. Many of which become known as Cryptids or folklore. And the humans, in their hubris, start to fear the unknown.
The Beast Clan decides to hide themselves amongst the creatures, more than the humans. Only interacting with the humans enough to learn everything they know. Their cultures, their languages, their sciences.
We learn, we grow, and we follow our purpose. But the humans make it harder as time goes by. They disrupt the balance and harmony. But they are the balance and harmony. We mustn't interfere too much. And so we watch and learn. We know.
Eventually the humans learn to travel the great oceans between lands. And our kin can meet again. We cry, and share, and learn. And we have a purpose.
We are always able to share and learn through our creator, but to hold my kin in my arms once again, I cry with joy once more.
The humans’ technology is developing at a far faster rate than their own evolution did. It's time for the clan to grow once more. Those who have not yet mated or bred are permitted to do so, within reason, so that we may keep up with the humans.
Of the original beasts, those who were made and not born, you are the only one who continues to stay unmated and without offspring of your own.
With transportation available between continents, a few beasts of your clan can travel between the factions. While you can all communicate through the roots of your creator, a more hands on approach is necessary for some matters. And the factions can not be everywhere at once, some exploration is necessary. Those who travel away from their factions are called Walkers. Those who stay within the reach of their factions are called Skins.
You know you and your sister are meant to be walkers. Your sibling is the perfect leader for their faction, and they have no urges to explore. Especially not while being recently mated, with offspring recently born.
The Walkers, who are not traveling with a mate or offspring, are to cover as much ground as possible. While the lands are all known, thanks to the creator’s roots, the clan needs to experience these lands and have more personal connections amongst its creatures and humans.
You explore this new world. You grow. You learn. You know.
