Beginning of My Life

I remember the smell of everything that night. I could smell the smoke of the fire from a distance. As I felt my little sister trembling near me. My mother carrying us while running away. I could hear howls following us. My mom must have heard it too. Because she looked back. I knew she was tired by the sound of her panting hard. She soon stop when we came to a cave.

"Get in the cave and don't come out" she said.

"Mom, where are you going?" I asked

"Jade, protect your sister no matter what"

"What're you talking about, mom"

"Jade, you have to promise me."

"I promise, but you have to come back"

"Sweetie, please understand." As she ran away.

Before I could call her back. I wake up to the smell of waffles. But it doesn't stop me from remembering it. It happened 9 years ago today. Jamie was only 6. But also the last time we saw her. Today is my 19th birthday. So, that would explain the waffles my little sister, Jamie is cooking. I get up off my bed and start stretching. Then head over to the kitchen to find her.

"Morning" I call to her as I pour some orange juice.

"Morning and Happy Birthday, sis" she says

"Thanks" I say

" Today is a good day I can feel it" she says

"Who made you the weatherman for today" I say laughing

" Can you take me to the town" she's says

"Town? Isn't it my special day?" I say

"Yeah, I wanna bake a cake for you" she says

" Sure, where's Manny"

"He went to work"

"Oh, okay"

Manny is our savior. After, a day of staying in the cave hungry. We walked out looking for food. Just then we saw a deer and watched it as it was shot out of nowhere. We ran running into him. I stood up and started to defend my sister. He laughed and asked us what we were doing in the woods alone. He was one of us but a rogue. I could smell him. I let my guard down and he took us in. I learn a lot of him over the years. He taught me to fight and how to control my wolf. Your wolf is apart of you he said. I saw it the first time I met you. But you're a little young to get it. I shifted when I was 8 years old. I was scared but my mom helped me. She told me I was going to be a leader. I got out of my head and continued eating my waffles. As I finished eating I went up stairs and got ready for the day. I looked in the mirror. Blue ocean eyes, brunette hair and a hourglass figure. I could see in the mirror Jamie waiting by my door. She got our dads blue eyes that were dark then mines. And our mothers brunette hair.
"Ready?" She asks

"Yeah" I say

We get in the black car Manny got for me on my 16th birthday. We went to town for the cake. But also went shopping. We soon came home after the movie at the theater was over. Manny's truck was in the driveway. It was only 4 in the evening. He came home early. We walked in with the stuff and Jamie started making a cake. Manny was at the table looking at me with a smile as he wished me a Happy Birthday.

"We need to have a talk, Jade. Let's take a walk" he says

I follow him out the cottage and down the trail that leads to the lake. As we approach the lake he sat on the rock.

" You are getting older and there will come a time-"

I know what he's about to say

"No, it won't happen. I won't get a mate"

He looks at me and shakes his head
"You need someone" he says

"No, I'm a strong independent women that can take care of herself." I say

"I'm not gonna force you into it. It's just that I don't want you to be alone forever. Think about it" he says as he gets up and walks back towards the cottage.

"A mate that wants what he wants. No. I have thought it through. And it's no."

As I skip a rock on the water and head back in the cottage I heard a howl. As curious as I was I looked at the time on my phone. Midnight. It's started. Mating Season. I look up to see the full moon to suddenly remember the day of the tournament is today. I walk inside and tell Manny and Jamie I will hunt for breakfast tomorrow and run out into the woods. Grabbing my bag from a tree an changed into my wolf form. I ran before I could miss it and changed back into my human form when I got close to the arena. I tied my hair then put on my mask and hoodie. There was more people than I thought they would be. The stands have been filled. The tournament happens every month for rogues. But not much people come. My wolf was excited to see the fight. As I walked forward watching the fight. I bumped into someone as I met their eyes. Their eyes. Haven't I seen them before.
