When I was walking home from my bus stop, I did not expect to come home to Taylor Swift. It had been very windy that day, and school had been as boring as it normally is, so I just wanted to get home, and I was kind of hoping that my parents wouldn't be home. So you can probably guess just how surprised I was when I walked into my house and saw Taylor. My jaw dropped and I stopped in my tracks. She was sitting with my parents at the dining room table, they had glasses of water and were sitting and talking as if they had known each other forever. I set my bag next to the door and walked the few steps over to the table and sat down and then I said words that I rarely say, or at least rarely say in front of my parents, "What the fuck?"
Taylor immediately tried to stifle both a laugh and a smile, though my parents just looked tired and had another look on their faces that I couldn't quite place. I leaned back and let out a quiet sigh before asking why Taylor was here. Because, you know, normally one of your favorite singers does not just drop by to talk. Instead of explaining, Taylor just said that she'd let my parents explain.
I looked towards my parents, waiting for them to explain. But what I didn't notice was Taylor looking towards them as well. My mom opened her mouth like she was about to talk, though before she'd even said a word, she'd closed her mouth as if the words just wouldn't come out. When my dad slowly realized that my mom wasn't going to explain, he started to. "You see Madelyn, when you were born, you weren't actually born to us, instead you were adopted. However, there was a rather large condition to the adoption, and that condition was that you'd have the opportunity to live with your birth mom for high school." I looked between my parent and Taylor, my eyes wide. "You mean?" I asked surprise in my voice, "You mean that Taylor Swift is my birth mom?"
"Yes." He looked directly at me, "We do. And we understand that this is probably a hard decision, so we were thinking that you could go spend the day, or if you want the night, with your birth mom, Taylor, to help make the decision". Though he didn't know that it was, in reality, a pretty easy decision.
"Ok, sure" I answered. It was safe to say that this was not at all what I expected to come out of today. At all.
Taylor smiled at my response, obviously glad to see that I wanted to get to know her.

When Taylor asked me where I wanted to go I didn't know what to say, when she saw my face and that my answer would probably not be very genuine, she suggested that we just get food or something and talk. Since that didn't seem that bad I agreed suggesting that we go to the best ice cream parlor in town. Elevated Ice Cream.
Thankfully Elevated was relatively empty, though the employees were surprised to see Taylor, though I would be too. And once we got our ice cream we sat down and talked. "So," Taylor started, "what do you do for fun around here?" She looked at me awaiting an answer.
"I don't really get out a bunch, kinda hard to in such a rural area, but I'll hang out at teen center with my friends sometimes." She looked confused and sort of had a look that told me to keep talking. "Teen center is this place on my school's campus where we can hang out after school, I don't go very often though because it's pretty loud." I thought that it would probably be polite to ask her a question in return since that is how conversations work. "Where are you staying while you're here?"
"I bought a house in Chimacum, and I'm staying there with the cats," I perked up at the mention of her cats, who are the most amazing celebrity pets, "and Travis" She continued, I wasn't surprised but I also wasn't expecting it. I'd already made my choice about living with Taylor, so I knew that I'd meet him eventually, even then, I wasn't expecting to meet what I guess is my stepdad today. "So, since we have 14 years of knowing each other to catch up on" Wonder whose fault that is, "I was thinking we could play 20 questions" I nodded and then she suggested that I go first.
"Ok, who's your best friend?" It was a simple question but I was curious, I looked at her curiously, waiting for her answer. She blinked, almost as if she had been waiting for a different question, "Selena Gomez, she moved to Kansas for me." she said, before shifting in her seat and sitting up higher to look at me, "Ok, my turn, do you like sports?"
I laughed, "Not really, unless you count dance as a sport. But yeah no, other than dance I hate sports." I looked outside and then back at Taylor seeing that she had also finished her ice cream, "Before I ask my next question, there's something I want to show you. Come on." We got out of our booth and throw out our trash before I lead her out of the ice cream shop, down the street, and toward my favorite bookstore, "Alright," I started as we walked in, "next question, other than writing music, what do you do in your free time?"
"I read" she replied just as we reached the bookshelves, "or bake" She picked up a book and held it up, "This is a really good book by the way, what's your favorite book?" She asked, putting the book back on the shelf and turning to look at me. "I can't decide, but my favorite authors are Jennifer Lynn Barnes, E. Lockhart, and Holly Jackson. I'm a big mystery and thriller fan" I responded, we continued asking each other questions for a while and we got to question nineteen.
"Why did you give me up?" Yeah. She was not expecting that. Her eyes widened and she became a bit flustered, looking down as if I was scolding her.
"I wanted to keep you and-" she stopped for a second before continuing, "I wanted to keep you, but I didn't have time, and I was starting to get famous and the media started bothering me more and more, and I didn't want you to have to fear the paparazzi, so I gave you up. What's your dream job?" She looked directly into my eyes.
"I've always wanted to do acting, or music, I play guitar, but I'll probably just end up being some type of engineer or biologist." I looked behind Taylor and saw my girlfriend, Madeline, just outside the store and ran out after telling Taylor that I'd be right back. "Maddie! Hey!"
Madeline turned around, noticing me, and came over and hugged me. "Hey, you here with your parents?" I smiled, shook my head, and said "No, Taylor Swift." She laughed, "I'm not joking, look over there." I pointed to Taylor who was looking at some little trinkets.
"Holy shit, you aren't joking." She looked extremely surprised, her eyes wide like saucers, "Wait, since when do you know Taylor Swift?" She seemed very confused, furrowing her brows. "Today" I smirked, "I'll tell you more later, I should get going." I pecked her on the lips, getting up on my tip toes to do so, "Bye."

A few hours later, I had decided to go spend the night at Taylor's and was packing my bag while Taylor sat on my bed. We were talking and eventually, she reminded me that I still had one more question, "You do too," I retorted, "But ok, my question is, do I have any siblings?" I kept packing, at least until she answered yes. She continued on to explain that I was a triplet and that we had been separated since she couldn't find anybody who both wanted triplets and agreed to let us live with her for high school. And then she said something extremely surprising, "You actually all go to the same school."
"What? Who?" My eyes were wide and I had muffled a small gasp when she had mentioned it almost off-handedly. She said their names and I confirmed that I knew, even mentioning that Audrey's, who I guess is my sister, boyfriend always calls me French, rolling my eyes as I said it.
Later, once we were in the car on the way to her Airbnb, I remembered that Taylor still had one more question left, but when I reminded her she just said that she'd ask me later since we had arrived.
Ok, first chapter of my first fanfic. I hope it's good! It seemed a little dialogue-heavy to me, but whatever. Please, please, please, share what you think, and if I didn't catch any mistakes. I don't know when I'll mostly publish, probably around once a week, but not on any fixed day.
Anyways,
Thanks for reading,
