The night was draped in a cloak of velvety darkness, interrupted only by the soft glow of the moon filtering through the window of their luxurious penthouse. Mina, her wife and the CEO of a successful company, had once again come home late.
It had become a routine – Mina buried in her work, leaving Chaeyoung to take care of their daughter alone.
As the hours ticked by, Chaeyoung's frustration grew. She loved Mina deeply, but she couldn't shake the feeling of loneliness that crept in each time Mina prioritized her career over their family.
Finally, when the clock struck midnight, the front door creaked open, and Mina entered their home.
She stepped inside with a heavy sigh, her stiletto heels clicking against the marble floor. She had lost track of time again, consumed by the demands of her career.
Chaeyoung, her partner, sat on the couch, gently cradling their baby in her arms. The little one, a bundle of joy named Lily, cooed softly, unaffected by the tension brewing in the air. Chaeyoung's eyes, usually twinkling with warmth, now bore a hint of concern as she watched Mina enter.
"Mina, you're late again," Chaeyoung's voice was laced with a mixture of disappointment and exhaustion.
Mina's brows furrowed, her fatigue mixing with defensiveness.
"I had an important meeting, Chaeyoung. You know how crucial this deal is for the company."
"And what about us, Mina? What about Lily?" Chaeyoung's voice quivered, her heart heavy with the weight of unspoken words.
Mina's shoulders slumped as guilt washed over her. She had been so consumed by her career ambitions that she had neglected the two most important people in her life.
"I'm sorry, Chaeyoung. I'll make it up to you both, I promise."
Chaeyoung sighed as she carefully cradled their baby in her arms, trying to soothe her restless cries. Unable to contain her frustration any longer, Chaeyoung stood up, her eyes welling with tears.
"Mina, do you even realize how hard it is for me? I'm here all day, taking care of her on my own while you're off building your empire. I need you, Mina. We need you." Mina's face fell as she realized the extent of Chaeyoung's pain.
"Chaeyoung, I'm sorry. I've been so focused on work that I haven't been there for you and our daughter like I should. I promise to do better, to be there for both of you."
Chaeyoung's anger began to dissipate as she saw the sincerity in Mina's eyes. She knew Mina was passionate about her career, but she also knew that their family was the most important thing to her. With a heavy heart, she nodded, silently accepting Mina's apology.
Taking a deep breath, Mina took their daughter from Chaeyoung's arms, holding her close. "I love you both more than anything in this world. I'll make it up to you, I promise."
As they stood there, embracing each other, Chaeyoung felt a sense of relief wash over her. They had their struggles, but together, they could overcome anything. And as Mina planted a tender kiss on their daughter's forehead, Chaeyoung knew that no matter how late she came home, Mina would always be there for them.
