"Miss Soelm? This way, please."
The short corridor was freshly coated. As soon as she stepped onto the floor, the smell of paint caught her nose. A modern, albeit somewhat spartan reception area complemented the minimalist, futuristic image that now presented itself in the meeting room behind the frosted glass door.
"Please take a seat. Berry and Madison are on their way. Can I get you anything else? Coffee? Tea?"
"Thanks, no need. I'm very happy with this water."
She gestured to the bottles on the table and reached for a glass. With a nod, the lively girl disappeared again and left her alone with the fizzing which followed. Thoughtfully, she poured herself a glass and moistened her slightly dried-out mouth.
How old she is? Surely not older than 18.
It fit the young image of the company. At the first glance over the website and the CVs of the aspiring owner couple, the message of the name immediately became clear to her:
MA/BE - maybe here is where your dreams begin
Maybe...
For a few minutes longer, she was left alone. She used this time to inspect the three framed movie posters on the wall. None of the titles rang a bell, but the illustrations and pictures spoke to her. Very much so. Suddenly, the side door to the room swung open.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Finia. I'm Madison", the tall brunette approached and greeted her with little kisses left and right. "We're so happy to finally meet you in person. This is Berry, my fiancé."
"Hi."
"Hi, Berry", she shook his sturdy hand, which didn't match the rest of him.
He was only slightly shorter than Madison, wearing a simple shirt with a vest over it and glasses on his nose, whose lenses suggested he was blind as a bat without them, right from the photo on the internet.
"So happy to be here too. You have no idea how excited I am."
Madison gestured for them to sit down and pushed one of the colorful designer chairs into place. "You say it. A friend told me about the story and I became curious, and after reading the book I knew immediately that it would be perfect for our portfolio."
"Thank you. That's great to hear, especially when you put so much heart and soul into every one of your projects."
"We're no different", Berry agreed with a smile. It faded shortly afterwards. "Unfortunately, there's just one problem: we're only a small studio with fairly limited resources. Hopefully that'll change soon. I don't know what makes people think we have millions at hand after just one year. Up until two months ago, we still had to live off our savings."
"Oh, no worries. Madison talked to me straight from the start. I knew right away that someone somewhere put something out there and then it took on a life of its own. Since my profile has been online, I've only really understood how quickly things can turn into a mess."
"So you're not disappointed to have taken the long flight and not heard any better news?"
"Not at all! I'm more than grateful you guys believe in my story and give it a chance. Besides, I've never been to Tennessee before. Two birds with one stone."
They talked a bit more about some of the sights in the area and Memphis - Elvis Presley's home. Also about their good and bad experiences on social media, which were not so different from each other. Then they came back to the planned film adaptation of her debut novel, which was not scheduled to start before next year.
