It was now one week into our second year and one week before our next special exam takes place. Unfortunately, Horikita hadn't made any progress in arranging the pairs yet. However, Nanase did contact her and said that Hosen was willing to meet, yet she didn't specify when. The problem here was our classmates they've done nothing all week besides attend the study sessions. If they find out Horikita has barely made any progress with Hosen, they'll definitely panic, but that might be to our benefit. At least, they might take studying more seriously if they're scared.
I walked into the classroom as I normally do and noticed quite a few eyes on me for some reason,I had a guess as to what tjat might be, but I was really hoping I was wrong.
Ike walked up to me and started speaking in a somewhat low voice so as not to be overheard.
"What's going on, Ayanokoji??"
"What?"
Hondo decided to join in a not so low voice.
"Yknow Ayanokoji, we saw you! You brought that cute red-haired Kouhai to your room the other day. What's that about??"
Hondo seemed jealous but also somewhat impressed.
Unfortunately for me everyone in our class heard him. Horikita chuckled upon hearing that she knew the complete truth and knew exactly what kind of situation I was in right now. As I said before, she really does enjoy my suffering. Kei, however, was almost glaring at me while being as discreet as possible. I met her gaze for a moment, but she immediately looked away.
I also saw the members of the Ayanokoji group looking at me with shock, disappointment, and misery.
"It wasn't like that. I was doing her a favour, and in return, she would partner up with Sudo."
What I said sounded ridiculous, completely like an excuse, yet it was the honest truth.
The professor unfortunately joined the conversation.
"I do remember a red-haired girl came up to me and asked what room the "mysteriously handsome" guy from class D stayed in. Upon questioning, she mentioned your name, so I gave her the room number."
Kei audibly gasped upon hearing that but instantly played it off as a cough. She played it off so well that her friends looked genuinely concerned for her.
"I swear it's nothing like that."
I had nothing else to say. I was cornered.
"He's saying the truth though that red-haired chick came up to us and asked Ayanokoji to cook for her, and in return, she'd partner up with me. Suzune was there too."
I had deliberately tried to avoid mentioning the cooking, but Sudo threw all my effort away.
"You cooked for her Ayanokoji??"
"I didn't even know you could cook what'd you prepare?"
"Did she like it? What happened? You gotta tell us!"
I was instantly bombarded with questions.
Yousuke, who had arrived in the middle of all this, glanced at me and looked back to him begging for help. Thankfully, he understood what I meant, and he had my back.
"Alright guys, just let Kiyotaka-kun catch his breath. This discussion is clearly uncomfortable, so let's all just sit down and wait for Sensei to arrive, okay?"
Most of my classmates seemed disappointed but didn't object to what Yousuke said. The control he had on the class was honestly impressive.
I finally managed to reach my seat and relax, or so I thought until...
