COTE Year 2 Reimagined

When I heard about the rules for the sports festival, I was worried Yagami-kun would approach me again and ask me to partner up with him, Ayanokoji-kun told me that was unlikely and thankfully he was right.

I partnered up with Utomiya-kun from class 1-C, and we've been doing great together. We weren't about to win first place or anything, but our results were still above average.

My day was going fine until I tried to sign up for the volleyball competition. Volleyball was the sport I excelled at even though I'm not in the volleyball club. I wouldn't say I'm one of the best players or anything, but I was definitely up there.

The problem came when I realised who else was applying. It was Amasawa-san. After what she did to me on the island, I couldn't even look at her. I always felt uneasy just being anywhere in her line of sight. I was about to just leave and apply to another event when I ran into Ayanokoji-kun.

"Are you applying Kushida?"

He decided to speak to me.

"I was going to, but no.."

I glanced towards Amasawa-san, and he noticed where my gaze went. He probably understood the situation now.

"How about we apply together? We'll need to find one more pair to join us."

Is he stupid? There was no way I'd play against her.

"You want to beat her, don't you? I'll help you."

I can't beat her. She'll humiliate me just like last time. But with Ayanokoji-kun here, then maybe...

I reluctantly applied on the same team as Ayanokoji-kun and Nanase-san.

"Good to see you, Ayanokoji. Hopefully, we can work together despite everything that happened."

Utomiya-kun spoke to Ayanokoji-kun...did they know each other? I thought back to what Yagami-kun said about the bounty. Maybe Utomiya-kun tried to claim it?

Of course, Ayanokoji-kun didn't even respond. He simply nodded and walked off. Nanase-san then walked up to me for some reason.

"Kushida-senpai. I understand that Ayanokoji-senpai now considers you an ally, but if you try to hurt him in any way, I won't forgive you."

Even though she spoke in such a calm tone, she was definitely threatening me.

"Are you his guardian or something?"

She seemed proud of herself for being described as a guardian.

"No, I'm simply his friend."

She nodded her head at me with her eyes closed and then walked away. She was just as strange as Ayanokoji-kun himself.

I needed to start looking for a third pair to join us. We needed 6 players to enter the tournament, and we were missing 2. Before I could even start looking, I heard some yelling.

"What the hell, Ayanokoji!! You're supposed to be on the same team as Horikita, so I can beat you both!!"

Ibuki-san was displeased and was expressing very loudly. Horikita-san was on the same team as Amasawa-san and Sudo-kun, but Ayanokoji-kun joined up with me.

"Sorry Horikita already had a pair."

Ibuki-san stomped her feet like a child.

"FINE! I'M JOINING YOU!!"

Who even invited her? Nobody said she could join our team...

"Sure."

And, of course, Ayanokoji-kun agreed. I guess Ibuki-san wasn't too bad. Her awful personality was annoying, but her skills could he useful.
