A/N: Honestly I don't really like this one but since it's already written I might as well publish it. Hopefully there's someone else who might find value in it.
"A-ha" Wei Ying exclaimed as he jumped out from his hiding spot and hit his brother on the back of the neck, rendering him completely immobile for the next fifteen minutes, and as a result the Jiang fell unprotected towards the floor. Unable to do much else Jiang Cheng closed his eyes and swore at his brother, threatening to break his legs for every minor injury that he sustained. But right before his face hit the floor he felt a set of strong hands catch his shoulders, narrowly saving him from a very painful fall.
"Lan Zhan..." Wei Ying whined at his husband who had been in charge of catching the Jiang, but the Lan ignored the complaint and simply let out a "I did what I promised to do". Lan Wangji had never liked Jiang Wanyin so it wasn't very surprising that he had intentionally waited to catch him at the very last second, giving the Jiang a scare in the process.
"Mn, you did. But next time can't you do it a little faster please?" Wei Ying kindly asked as he walked over to his husband's side, acting as though almost dropping Jiang Cheng on the floor wasn't that big of a deal.
"Pah, there won't be no next time. They can tell me that you've passed away and I still won't visit. You can attend your funeral by yourself" Jiang Cheng huffed to the ground. He had traveled day and night to get to Gusu after receiving the message that Wei Wuxian was on his deathbed due to some strange incurable disease. He had been so worried, and yet here his brother was healthy enough to orchestrate a surprise attack on him leading Jiang Cheng to believe it was all just a hoax to lure him to Gusu.
"Naaw, don't be like that A-Cheng. Once you find out what we have planned you won't be so mad anymore" Wei Wuxian promised as he took over from his husband and leaned Jiang Wanyin's slumped body up against a nearby wall allowing the Jiang to see something other than Jingshi's thankfully clean and spotless floor.
"Ah yes, because any good plan starts with incapacitating your victim. Since I'm already greatly enjoying myself I'm sure I will love the rest of your plan as well" Jiang Cheng said sarcastically whilst rolling his eyes, as it was the only thing he could do. Being incapacitated left him with very few ways of expressing his fury. The only other noticeable difference from before he was attacked was the purple light coming from Zidian as she asked for her master's permission to take her more violent form. But what use was there for a whip if you didn't have an arm capable of swinging it?
"Well... what if I tell you that our plan has to do with a certain crush of yours?" Wei Ying teased. Even though Jiang Cheng had never confessed to it his brother, he had already figured out his rather embarrassing feelings towards a certain Lan.
"I don't know who you're talking about. But I feel bad for whatever poor soul you're about to bother next." Jiang Cheng tried to look disinterested but inside he was worried. Worried that Lan Xichen would be victimized by Wei Ying as well. Jiang Wanyin had dealt with Wei Wuxian his entire life, he was used to the annoyance and teasing, Lan Xichen was not. Although with Wei Wuxian having moved into Jingshi perhaps it was just a matter of time before he too would become conditioned to accept it as a natural part of life...
"No need to look so sad A-Cheng, we won't hurt him. Right Lan Zhan?" The Lan pretended to not have heard the question making Jiang Cheng even more worried. What was Wei Ying planning to do to sect leader Lan that was so bad that not even his yes-man of a husband was willing to agree that they weren't up to something bad?
And so Jiang Cheng decided to bite the sour apple, if he could keep his brother speaking for long enough to regain his mobility he could stop anything from happening. "Stop playing games Wei Wuxian. This isn't funny, just tell me what your planning on doing to sect leader Lan"
"Haa. Finally, being honest about your feelings brother?" Wei Ying said with glee as he had for the first time managed to get Jiang Cheng to mention the name of his not so secret crush. "Fine. I will tell you as a little treat from your kind older brother. So... The thing I am going to do is exactly what my dear uncle-in-law has asked of me"
Jiang Cheng highly doubted that. "And what would that be? Jump off another cliff?"
Brushing off the Jiang's comment Wei Wuxian kept talking. "No. He's been teaching me the importance of acting more Lan-like as I am now part of the family. So in honor of Lan Qiren I am going to tell brother-in-law the truth. The. Whole. Truth." Wei Ying said with a teasing tone.
"The truth about what?" Jiang Cheng growled, having a very bad feeling that he knew exactly what Wei Wuxian was talking about. And sure enough, judging by the annoying smirk plastered on his face he was right. Fuck him, Wei Ying was enjoying himself far too much as he planned to ruin the Jiang's life even more than he already had.
"Ten minutes have passed" the Lan said in a monotone voice, before Jiang Cheng could spit another insult his brother's way.
"Oops, seems like I forgot that I forgot that I had a meeting scheduled with brother-in-law right around now so I should probably head over to Hanshi before it's too late. It would be very un-Lan-like of me to be late to a meeting, so I hope brother can understand why I will have to take my leave now. It was really nice catching up with you, please come visit me again soon A-Cheng." Wei Ying said with a wink before heading out the door with Lan Wangji not far behind him. Both leaving Jiang Cheng incapacitated in their home.
"Hey Wei Wuxian, this is not funny! Come back here this instant!!" He shouted, but to no avail. He would not be coming back. And sadly Jiang Wanyin knew his brother too well. He could tell that this wasn't the kind of prank which would end with him walking outside Jingshi's doors to find his brother gleefully shouting 'surprise'. No, this was one of those bad ones where Wei Ying would actually go through with his promise of telling Lan Xichen everything.
The next five minutes that followed was agonizing. Being stuck, unable to move a muscle, as he was tortured with the knowledge of what Wei Wuxian was about to do was straight up soul-crushing. All he could do was hope that Lan Xichen had gotten held up with something else and that Jiang Cheng could get to Hanshi in time before Wei Ying had ruined their professional relationship beyond repair.
Finally able to move once more Jiang Cheng rushed out of Jingshi, ignoring any and all of Gusu's rules in favor of getting to Hanshi as fast as possible. But it wasn't fast enough. Watching from afar Jiang Cheng saw two white-clad men with a black-robed Wei in between them.
Gone was the older Lan's usual smile, replaced with a heartbreaking frown. Anyone would have been able to tell that he was deeply upset, and Jiang Cheng was no exception to this. Feeling his heart lurch at the sight he wanted to run away so badly, back to Yunmeng where he was safe and happy. Back to the people who cared and supported him, the people who wouldn't go behind his back and stab him where it hurts.
Lan Xichen's reaction said it all.
It was all over.
