Hello again! Today's topic is distinguishing between hearing from God and Satan.

A lot of Christians especially ones new to prayer worry about if they are hearing from God or Satan. So let me talk about some things that may help you out in identifying where the messages are coming from.

I'm going to start off with tone or how it makes you feel. Did the message feel comforting, soothing, reassuring? Or did it feel scary, stressful, miserable? If the message makes you feel calm or positive it is likely from God. If it makes you feel worried, doubtful or negative it's likely from Satan. Another part to this is that messages from God are reassuring, often in a soothing tone and he will correct you, whereas Satan will be loud, bring you down and condemn you.

Is the message biblical? This is a little obvious, but if the message goes against what is said in the Bible you shouldn't take it seriously.

The best way I've heard it described is you need to tune into Gods voice (not always audible, he can speak through senses, memories, thoughts, scripture etc) just be on the lookout for what the message is telling you and how it makes you feel. For me, that's the most effective way at identifying where a message comes from.

For example, let's say you've sinned and messed up but are in prayer coming back to God. Jesus is merciful, gentle and forgiving. Satan is condemning, disheartening and cruel. I hope this helps anyone who happens to read this book of mine!
