"Have an open mind."Changing the way you think and act is the beginning of a so called: 'improvement' in life. Starting with the way you perceive things around you.
Judgment is everywhere and there's no way to avoid that. Even the eyes are enough to judge one. Here's a small imput on the spiritual side: There will come a day where we will all stand before God and true judgement belongs to Him. Everything you do, say and what measures you use on other's will be the same measure used against you on the day of judgement. Bare that warning in your hearts and souls. While you're still around in earth, there's time to change. We will not be flawless therefore, yet we could reduce such flaws. In Christianity, our sins get washed away by accepting Jesus Christ in our hearts as our Lord and saviour. God who came down as flesh and blood to understand us human beings better and go through sufferings. He knew plenty would reject Him and yet He proceeded to go all through that just to save you. That's His love for us. He paid the full price, knowing we do not deserve His mercy but it's up to you to claim His grace. This doesn't justify you into continuing to intently living a sinful life and thinking with prayers, everything is alright again. Change your ways, behavior, cut the sinful habits and humble yourself. We are human beings who can't decipher what is right and what is wrong on our own understanding. But a change of mind and heart like trying to act accordingly to God will make a huge impact on you. See the world in God's eyes. Plenty will hate you like they hated Jesus. So why fear judgement from human beings?
I once read a bible verse that goes: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." - Proverbs 9:10-12. That's one of the greatest verses that changed my whole aspects on life. I'm fully aware that there are people who do not believe in God or have different beliefs. This is not an attempt to force you into my beliefs. You've been given the free will by God after all and enlightment should come from each own's heart. However, I felt like sharing what truly shaped me into the person I am now and that started with Jesus.
I have hated people and always seemed to judge them. Everything about individuals irritated me and I was never truly satisfied. I didn't understand how immature that was back then. Getting older made me realize that everyone is probably the same and thought ill of me. I developed the fear of judgement. I tried my best to show my good side to please them, feared engaging into conversations, I intently reduced my actual potential by holding myself back out of fear. I wanted to contain my image. Nowadays, I don't care much about that anymore. I can not control what people perceive me as but I can control my actions whether they like it or not. Stumbling across that bible verse made me rethink.
'Why do we fear things we can not control?' ...I eagerly tried to fit in society, go with the waves and having no personal opinion because I feared what they thought and said about me. My pride and ego was taking over. That's a fleshly desire that is very deceitful. It feels good for a short-term minute but is secretly digging your pit hole of death.
Having an open mind as in accepting people the way they are is the first step to find peace within. There will never be peace in this world given by the hard circumstances and hatred, however you can find peace inside your mind, heart and soul. No matter what race, age, beliefs, social status or perplexed opinions they have, they are part of the human nature. Remember, we are all different in our ways and none is above the other one. You can't change who they are. You have to adjust and try to comprehend what they are trying to say. Think about how much the world could be if we weren't all so judgemental and actually tried accepting everyone's indifferences that doesn't do us any harm.
There are ways to make small changes in having an open mind. Such as listening before you speak and act. Let them talk and fill in missing parts when asked. Do not provoke them when delivering your opinions. Never let your emotions rule over your rational thinking. Your feelings shouldn't decide for what you feel is best, rather than thinking ahead and what could help for the future. Do not be afraid to talk. We have people who talk too less, but could change a lot in the world and we have people who talk too much that doesn't get us close to somewhere. What I'm trying to imply is that mostly talking could open opportunities for you or change someone's life, when using the right words to express yourself firmly. It's all a matter of intention and deliverance. But before you measure someone by their wrongs, look at yourself first.
This may be self-explanatory, but if it were the case: 'Why do we still have to deal with narrow-minded people and stereotypes?'
Think about it. Do not fall in the pattern of this dark world. Change your ways for the better and draw a line between society and yourself.
That's the first part of changing for the better.
