"Wah..." Jaeyun exclaimed, eyes shining at the crowd as they walked through the gates of the theater. "There has to be at least a thousand people here!"
The theater the Tomorrow by Together Troupe was performing at was one of the largest theaters on the Silver Lake Mountain. This theater, Snowflake Garden, was not not just a theater, but it was also a bigger complex with housing for the performers as well as for wealthy guests. In the very center of the complex was a stage with an outdoor and roofless component that extended from traditional stage—with more and more cultivators turning to performers, an outdoor and roofless component was necessary to prevent damages to buildings. Surrounding this stage was a large ground space with dozens and dozens of long benches for audience members. But, that wasn't all. Beyond this floor seating was the rest of the complex. Large private balconies, those that extended from rooms and those that didn't, looked down into the stage and crowd. These balconies had tables and had private servants who would serve the guest upon request.
Compared to the general seating area, the balconies were something only the rich could afford. A balcony just for viewing could cost up to twenty gold leaves depending on the location, and a room with a balcony could cost up to fifty gold leaves a night. In comparison, a seat on the ground floor would only cost someone from ten copper coins to a single silver leaf. Even if no seats were available, one could spend three or five coins to purchase a spot to stand. These balconies and the services it came with were luxuries only the wealthy could buy.
Fortunately, Jungwon and his brothers, being some of the best performing disciples in their sect, they were quite rich. Although the rooms had been completely bought out in previous nights, they were able to purchase a centered low-viewing balcony for eighteen gold leaves.
Their balcony was on the pricier side, but it was well worth the money. Not only was it just a balcony, it had somewhat of a room. A portion of the balcony was inside the building with three tables surrounded with chairs. On the outer portion, over-looking the stage, four chairs sat facing the edge with small tea tables between them. Their balcony also had curtains, turquoise sheer and silk fabrics, that hung from the top, allowing privacy from others.
When they stepped into their space, two maidservants and two manservants dressed in the turquoise uniform of the theater greeted the boys when they walked in, immediately serving them tea and taking off their cloaks.
"Shit." Sunghoon was already looking over the edge of the balcony, watching the crowds of people file in and find a seat. "There's a lot of people."
Jaeyun playfully nudged him, "I bet you could only dream of performing in front of this many people."
"Yah." Sunghoon looked offended by that comment. "I've performed in front of at least two hundred people, okay? That's still a big feat!"
"Two hundred compared to five thousand. Hoon-ah, you're still a small performer."
"I think..." Sunghoon glared at the other, "your scale is a bit off."
Jaeyun shrugged, unfazed, "seems pretty accurate to me."
"Wah..." Sunoo took a seat on the balcony and picked up a cup of tea that had been filled by one of the servants. "It's good that we got here early, any later we probably would've been cramped down there."
Below them was the ground floor where people were still pouring into the theater. Earlier when they had come in, there were still lots of space left, with at least half of the seats empty; now, however, there were barely any space left and some people had started pushing and arguing with each other. Children were starting to cry from the chaos as they were jostled around. It was a mess.
