What is the Teddy Challenge?
If you've read the book A Note A Day, you may know how the main character, Charlotte, receives anonymous notes every day.
They're not harmful, like you may think. They're actually encouraging, telling Charlotte sweet pickup lines or compliments, or sometimes just telling her a joke.
Charlotte eventually thinks that Theodore Higgins, a boy at her school, is the one writing her the notes.
Of course, as I wrote the book, I found it more and more awesome: the idea of anonymous notes being encouraging and helping someone have a good day. I know if I received cute notes like the ones Charlie gets, I'd be much happier. [same. i need encouragement nowadays. ㅡturtle]
One of my biggest fans and a good internet friend of mine, Phoebe (NegativeWriter26), told me about a crush of hers, and she told me she tried out being an anonymous note writer.
She told me how she wrote encouraging things on paper and put them in places where her crush would notice them at school.
I, of course, was ecstatic. My book was fictional; I had never thought that someone would actually try it out.
Every day she would tell me over private message how it went with her crush and the notes. Although nothing has happened with Phoebe and her crush, it definitely sped up their relationship and gave her courage. She said to just have the experience of writing the notes to him was fun.
This is what we're going to do.
We're going to encourage you. Write notes to that crush you've been wanting to talk to for weeks. Write notes to your best friend just to cheer them up. [you never know if they need it. Depression is a hide-and-go-seek kind of game. ㅡturtle] Write a note to the kid that sits in the back of the classroom. [I would love someone to give me notes, and I am the weird stalker fangirl who sits in the back of classroom. —phoebe] That's what Turtle, Phoebe, and I are here to do. We'll help you. We'll answer your questions. We'll give you advice. We'll give you challenges.
We're here to encourage you to face your crush. We're here to give you support. We're here to tell you to spread the smiles. Take the risk. What's the worst that can happen - you make someone's day?
We're here to spread the smiles. We're here to encourage positivity. We're here to give you that small push you've needed.
We're the Teddy Challenge.
