"And- let's get back on Candice." Daniel said swiftly.

Should this make Louis feel sick? This whole interview he's been criticized and dismissed. Deep down he knows that he deserves it for what he did to Daniel heard ago. But Candice didn't. She didn't deserve to have her name be tossed around.

Dirtied and dismissed like she was nothing. Nothing more than a killer.

Lestat may have deserved that treatment. But Claudia and Candice? Oh, definitely not.

A part of Louis wanted to tell Daniel to watch is mouth but he didn't wanna come off too emotional. Not yet. Not ever again.

"Do you think she's still out there?" Daniel asks a be little less bored looking. He was interested in this vampire life and getting a good story. But he was old and had reasonable opinions.

Well— sometimes.

He had referred to Claudia as a "bandage for a shitty marriage." Which almost pissed Louis off.

But he couldn't bite.

His dead heart almost stopped at the question he had just been asked. He really didn't know the answer. He just hoped she was.

"I hope she is." Is all he said. At first. "You see...there was this note she had left one time. I can't tell you if it was from the time she actually left or one of the temporary times she was on a trip-"

"You know it was the time she actually left you." Daniel spoke with no remorse. He wasn't gonna take back ANYTHING he said.

Louis' old, more emotional side starts showing as he looks between Daniel and his table.

"She worn down too many good heels running." He chuckled before taking a deep sigh.

He wasn't gonna let this get to him.

"I know my babygirl, she ain't dead." He answered almost defensively and angrily.

"Unlike Claudia?" And just like that, Louis grabbed Daniel by his collar and swooped him up into the air. It took all his power not to murder him. This man.

His words could almost be as cruel as a vampire's.

He couldn't speak. He just started at this man with pure hate before slowly setting him down. "Fuck you. Don't you ever talk about my daughters like that again."

"You know Louis, maybe you and lestat both picked favorites. You chose Claudia, he chose Candice. He had less problems with Candice and you were just closer with Claudia."

This silly little human. He just doesn't stop running his mouth, does he? He doesn't know when to stop!

"Now, tell me about this note."

It was remembered just like it was yesterday.

(LATE 1700'S)
The whole day was torturous. One of the biggest fights so far.
Everyone just needed a moment. That was until it happened.

"Louis!" Lestat shouted once again enraged as he stormed to the bedroom. "She's gone." He spat bitterly.

That gut feeling in Louis' stomach made him know it all too well. He knew it wouldn't be Claudia to run off again.

He immediately sped to Candice's room only to find it empty with one note. One sickening little letter.

He slowly, hesitantly picked up the thing that would make his heart break for the millionth time. When could he ever catch a break?

"Daddies, sister, the time has come. I'm done. Don't come looking for me. My life has been taken away to feel nothing but death whilst someone how still walking. How does that even work? Am I alive or dead? Not fully at least. I'll miss all three of you. But I know I should hate all of you for what you've done. One of you asked for me to be turned and the other complied. Same thing with Claudia, thought about no one but yourselves. I wanna give you some more heartfelt words but I'm not in the mood right now. It's been a fun half a century but I've run down too many good heels already and probably more with all this running. To the only men I've ever loved, and my beautiful sister, the other half of my heart. Love, or hate,
-Candice."

(BACK TO PRESENT DAY)

"I know her. She wouldn't have written that note genuinely. She would've put more heart into it. It wouldn't feel so bland and angry. She was mad. She was tired." Louis tried to insist. Maybe she would've wrote another more from the heart.

He hoped she'd write another.

"That child hated you. You took everything away from. Yet you somehow didn't break her. Tell me Louis, if she would be dead today, would you actually care?" Daniel wasn't going to hold back. Not until this whole thing was over.

Louis could only give the right answer. The honest answer. The only answer.

"Yes."
