Hola, enjoy 😊
~~~~
We didn't encounter any danger on our way out. All the monsters did was run around the area we slept at, sniffing the floor. To not attract their attention we continued on like we didn't see anything.
I stepped out of the door and used my hand to shield my eyes from the sun.
"BYE!"
One of the twins aggressively waves at us bedding us farewell with a hint of an accent. While the other slaps his hand down.
The kid with messy hair and glasses gives a small wave and uses his other hand to hold the creeps hand.
Said creep's face is devoid of emotion and the only reason I know he's annoyed is the twitching in his eye as he stares. Is this guy okay....? He has a staring problem.
The kid pulls at his hand and based on reading his lips he's asking to go. The guy then proceeds to switch hands and starts to walk off through the rubble and smashed cars.
The two guys run up to them. Only leaving footprints on the dusty ground.
Seems like I worried for nothing.
________
We're now walking down another tunnel and the rest are talking amongst themselves.
Taking advantage of no one bothering me I begin to collect my thoughts regarding my origin and why I have no recollection of it.
It seems even with limited memories I know what certain things are on a material level like objects, places and things like that. But when it comes to the memory of being there, meeting people and knowing anyone. That's when I can't remember anything. It's like I'm seeing things from a third person point of view. I have repeatedly tried to remember anything and I always come up short.
"Huuu" I let how a long sigh.
"What's wrong?" Leo walks backwards asking.
"..." I see a piece of debris on the ground behind him.
"Nothing" I shrugged my shoulders.
"Ack!"
Just as he was about to open his mouth again he's falls with a loud thud. I don't bother helping him up and step over him.
"Oooh, look what I found" , he comes up to my right sticking his dirty hand out holding dusty black sunglasses.
"When I fell, I saw it near an open bag".
"Here, take it", he shoves it closer to my face.
When I was about to grab them he lets out a sound "wait" he pulls his sleeve up and wipes them as clean as he could get them.
"Don't mind the scratches" he smiles and puts it into my hand.
"...." I place them on my face nodding in acknowledgment. His face seemed to brighten at that.
I guess I don't need to search for it.
_______
After a while we begin to reach the end. Thats when I noticed scorched monster carcasses surrounding a van.
I step over a large burnt hand. It seems like some managed to crawl away but it inevitably died. As we near the van I can see that majority of the dead monsters are the large ones but there are a few small monsters here and there.
Some even went are far as to tear at its skin. Those who did that were siting in a fetal position with its fingers dug deep into its flesh.
"Seems like it worked quite well" Damien says while kicking at the monsters head.
"I guess so.."
"You seem disappointed?" He stops in his tracks and looks towards Layla.
She crouches at one of the bodies and presses her fingers onto its charred skin. She then gets a knife and drags it across. She turns the knife flat and opens the wound.
I realised what she was checking for and felt my eye brow twitch. I turn to look behind me but with the only light source is coming from the torch in Laylas hand making it very difficult to see.
"What is it?" Leo and Ang happen to say at the same time.
I almost spoke because Layla was taking a bit too much time investigating instead of quickly leaving. Which is strange for someone like her who is quick on the uptake.
However, if I speak before she explains I feel like I'm going to fall into her schemes. First of all it's weird that she's not quickly telling us to leave and second of all she's been watching me all this time.
I have no idea what her goal is. But from what I can see she's stupidly putting them in danger for no good reason.
I cross my arms unimpressed by her display of stupidity.
"Layla spit it out will you?"
I feel a twinge of amusement by what Damien said.
Layla stands up straight and stares at me for a few seconds before turning away with a slight smirk.
From the moment she got close to the monsters till now it took 6 minutes of silence before she spoke up. Ang and Leo seemed a bit shaken up by how she was behaving and glancing in every direction. While Damien on the other hand just had a confused face and let her have her moment.
"I'll explain once we leave, so for now let's run" she run past the monsters.
"Huh?"
"Wait what?!"
"..."
The siblings let out confused sounds after getting pushed by Damien to begin running.
I contemplated if I should run up to her and question why she did that. But at the same time I didn't want to have more interactions with her.
While the siblings were still questioning things. I began to hear the reason for why we are in danger. It's slamming past cars and screeching as it goes along.
I know that it's getting closer because the vibrations in the ground is increasing.
I quickly catch up to them.
CLANG
"Leo!" Ang shouts out.
She almost stops running until she saw me reach under Leo's arm and swiftly pull him up. Without looking back again she continued running.
I don't let go of Leo's arm and continue. Instead I hold onto his wrist as I pull him.
Why is he so clumsy?
I feel his gaze on the side of my head.
"Thanks" he quietly says.
"..."
The monster continues to screech crushing its fellow species.
Up ahead I see an overturned military tank and dead personnel all around. Perfect I think to myself and change my line of course towards the bodies.
"Huh?" Leo lets out a confused sound from the sudden pull.
Forgetting what's behind me I become focused on one thing.
