HI THERE!
Chapter 2
I stared uncomfortably out of window My Football on my lap, My Gummy bears in my hand and my Prada bag on a neighbouring seat. My Mum was going to meet me at the port. I hadn’t seen her in so long, I couldn’t really wait. My farewell to Cathy, My Aunt, Maria and Rebecca had been very tearful. But I still didn’t know where I was going.
My phone began to ring.
‘Pineapples make me hyper; I like to run around,
Nobody is special, dance without a sound,
People look there! There’s a squirrel on that tree!
People are so gullible, but people aren’t me.’
I began to sing along, before I finally flipped it up.
“Hey Darling! I won’t be there at the port, but I hope your journey is good!” Then she clicked the phone line short.
WHAT! HOW AM I MEANT TO KNOW WHERE TO GO!
“Hi?” A voice came from behind the screen. I turned in my chair to see a girl knocking. She had long brown hair, and she peered in at me from behind chocolate brown eyes. Her lilac tank and sky blue skirt gave her a shy-look mixed with a cool/kind chick theme and it was only emphasised by her shy expression.
“Yeah???” I wondered aloud, stretching for a point. I shuffled my feet from side to side, plating with the ball in between them.
“May I, um…. Sit here? It’s just there’s, you know, nowhere else…” she trailed off, looking hopefully at my spare seat.
“Oh! Of course!” I offered, gesturing to the seat. She held her skirt behind her back, Not allowing herself to trip on it as she sat down gracefully. She tucked her Pink suitcase by my Six Large purple ones before beaming contently at me. She relaxed a little, a calm and controlled way contorting her features. I then noticed the blonde highlights that ran though her hair.
Soon we lapsed into a slightly awkward silence, obviously unable to think of much to say.
“I’m Angela, by the way. Angela Perry.” She offered, breaking the cold silence and shuffling of my feet that had filled the air only seconds before.
“Ashley. Ashley Parks.” I put my hand out for her to shale. She hesitated before extending her hand the full length, trying to smile as she did so. I tried not to notice as she flinched when she touched my hand.
Then we fell back into more silence, as I began to fidget increasingly more. I pulled more gummy bears from the packet, biting off arms first, then legs before the head and tummy. I don’t know why, it’s just how I eat them. I passed the ball from ankle to ankle subconsciously, still thinking of the difference between red and orange gummies.
“You like sport then?” Angela broke the silence once again with an average comment.
“Huh?” Was my oh-so-brilliant reply.
“You’re still passing a ball between your feet.” She pointed out. I looked down…. Oh, so I am.
“Yeah, yeah a do.” There was a pause.
“What types?” She began. I took a quick breath, thinking.
“I love Football and sprinting. Hurdles are Ok, I guess. I also took self defence for a few months but I soon stopped.” I paused. “How about you?”
Now it was her turn to “Huh?”
“What sports do you like?” I asked clearly. If she likes any, I added mentally.
