𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 brought him in on a wooden stretcher.

She stood up slowly, eyes roaming all over his injured form. Her pale pink dress had long lost its lustre, gems dull under the dim light of the emergency tent. Dirt had made its home on the bottom of her skirt, creating a gloomy ombre effect to what was once beautiful gown.

The only sparkle came from her unshed tears, as she stared silently, uncomprehending.

The two soldiers set him down by the wall. Dark red blood covered his badges. She used to know them like the back of her hand.

"...him?"

They were speaking to her.

She tore her gaze off of him, forcing herself back to reality, trying to act normal.

"Is this him, Your Royal Highness?" one of the soldiers repeated.

She swallowed thickly. "Yes."

One of them left to find a doctor, and the other stayed awkwardly by the door, waiting for instructions.

She fell to her knees by his side. She paid no attention to how that dirtied her dress even further. Absolutely nothing else was in her mind at that moment.

Gently, she picked up one of his hands. Wounded, virtually unrecognisable. Despite it all, she gingerly pressed a soft kiss to his knuckles.

His dark hair was caked with mud, uniform torn and ragged. She watched the imperceptible rise and fall of his chest. It was her lifeline just as much as his.

A single tear graced her cheek and fell onto their joined hands.

"Choi Beomgyu," she whispered, "we meet again."
