Inside the space shuttle form of the actor named Sky Lynx, the private investigator Nightbeat along with the amnesiac/alleged-headmaster known as Dex make their way home to the planet Cybertron to collect the reward for their recently-completed quest. They have only just started to process the strange things they have experienced when they receive a signal from familiar space...
"Nightbeat, do you hear that?"
"What are you talking about, Sky Lynx?"
"There's some sort of distress call—"
"Shut up. I'm trying to listen. There's a distress call from someone called..." Nightbeat seemed to have lost his concentration. "That has to be a prank. Or some crazy person."
"There can't be a new one, can there? I thought the Matrix was lost with Sentinel."
"What are you guys talking about?" Dex could not be more left out. They had no historical context for the conversation their companions were having, and also lacked the sensors strong enough to hear this signal. "Who needs help?"
"Someone who says they are very important, Dex." Sky Lynx answered with as much tact as possible. "But it would be... very strange if they actually were who they said they were."
"Someone claiming to be the new Prime says he needs a ride back to Cybertron." Nightbeat doesn't think tact is appropriate right now.
"The new...Prime?"
"If he has the Matrix of Leadership, that would make him the rightful ruler of the whole Cybertronian Empire." Sky Lynx tried to simplify. "But no one knows what happened to the Matrix."
"So he's probably lying." Nightbeat cut to the chase.
"I see. That makes sense. So where are they? What can we do to help?"
Nightbeat and Sky Lynx went quiet. Were they really about to ignore a distress call, just because the person sending it thought they were the new Prime? Clearly they were crazy. But... crazy people need help too?
"They're not far off our course. We have the fuel for it. And we're already headed home." Sky Lynx was clearly leaning towards helping the stranger.
