Roseanne

Dates don't always work out the way they're supposed to. And yet, tonight proved just how it is to feel connected to a complete stranger... and just how far a little trust can go.

I walk into a bar, and it's already crowded with people moving between their tables and little booths.

I stand on my toes, looking around for any sign of my blind date for one night... but it doesn't look like he's even here yet. He's late... that's not starting off on a good note.

Making my way over to the bar, someone catches my eye. It's not my date but it is a very hot woman that holds my attention for a good bit.

With nothing else to do but wait, I order a drink and settle in.

"Hey, there." Someone said to me.

I turn toward the stranger I had just ogled, freezing for a moment. "Forgive me, but I saw you over there all alone, and I couldn't help but come over to say hello. You look like you're waiting for someone."

Oh God, I bet she saw me staring at her. "I actually have a date tonight, he's not here yet. In fact, he was supposed to be here about ten minutes ago."

"I see. Well, I can't say much for him already." She said.

"And why is that?" I asked.

"Because I couldn't imagine making a beautiful woman like you wait for me." She winks at me.

My breath hitches in my throat. A stranger is flirting with me. Correction - a very hot stranger... "That's nice of you to say. I'm sure whoever's lucky enough to have you really appreciates that..." I look her up and down slowly as if I'm trying to suggest something. "...among other things."

She grins, and I can't help thinking what a nice smile she has. "I'm flying solo these days, but I'll take that as a compliment. How did you meet this guy anyway?"

"It's a blind date, technically. He's a friend of a friend, and I figured it was worth a shot." I told her.

"You got all dressed up for him, and he can't even be here on time. He'd better be amazing in some other way to make up for it." She takes a sip of her drink, then scrunches her face. "I'm sorry if I'm overstepping."

"No, I think you're right. Thank you for being indignant on my behalf." I smiled at her.

"It just isn't right. You're here, looking gorgeous, being amazing, and right on time. You're putting in the effort." She leans in closer to me, and I catch a whiff of her cologne. It smells warm and good, and I like having her so close. "I know we only just met... but I can already tell you're the kind of woman who deserves to be treated better than this."

My heart is beating faster from the way she lowers her voice to say that, and I have to clear my throat. I open my mouth to ask her how she would treat me, when I catch sight of Jaehyun, my date, coming into the bar. I was almost hoping he wasn't going to show up...

"Well... my date just walked in. I guess I should go over there and join him." I said to her, pointing my hand to Jaehyun's direction.

"I guess you should. Remember what I said, though. He'd better be worth the effort." She winks at me again and flags down the bartender while I get up and make my way over to the table Jaehyun has snagged.

"There you are. I've been looking all over for you, Roseanne."

"I've been by the bar." I'm mad and he's smiling. "I got here like ten minutes ago."

"Didn't we say seven forty-five?" Now he's acting innocent.

"No, we said seven-thirty."

"I don't think so. I definitely remember it being later than that." This guy... "And you've already got a drink." Why he's acting sad now?
