Ash's friend

The both of them took deep breaths as they prepared themselves. They silently debated on who should enter first. But someone else did their work for them.

The door slowly opened to reveal two bickering teenagers. Upon realising what was in store for them, they looked at the teacher and laughed awkwardly. But they soon recognized who it was.

Their eyes widened and they were at a loss for words.
"Professor Oak?!"
Ash shouted.
"You were coming here too?!"
Misty asked as her face began twitching with anger.
"Then why couldn't you have spared a few seats for us? Do you know how hard a time we had riding on a tauros this far?!"
She continued.
"Oh, did I not mention that I was working as a teacher here starting this semester?"
Professor Oak said smiling innocently.
"No!"
They both yelled back in unison.

The kids began murmuring at the commotion and some of them began making speculations as to who they were.
"Hey, don't you think they seem familiar?"
A girl whispered quietly to her friend.
"I was thinking the same thing."
Similiar conversations arose in various parts of the classroom. Soon it became noisy and Professor Oak had to go to the front to calm them down. He motioned Ash and Misty to take a seat.

They nodded in response and quickly began searching for a seat. Ash noticed a familiar face waving at him and pointing at the empty seat beside her. Misty had spotted an empty seat as well in another row.
Just as they were about to go their separate ways, Ash stopped Misty and said something to her softly, just loud enough for the both of them to hear.

"You look pretty with your hair down"
He said as he grinned and rushed towards his seat.

Misty got flustered at the unexpected remark and realized that she had forgotten to tie her hair. She quickly ran towards her seat trying to hide her embarassment.

The class had started but Misty couldn't shook off Ash's words from her mind. She felt like this would end up being the start to something undesirable.

"Hey, Ash."
His bench mate whispered to him while keeping her eyes on the professor.
"Huh?"
Ash replied startled.
"What's up with you today? You seem so... distracted. And how come you were so late? Do you know how long we waited for you?"
Serena said a bit disappointed.
"Oh yeah, I'm really sorry about that. I overslept."
Ash replied still a little out of it.
"Classic you!"
Serena laughed softly, taking a quick look at Ash.
She realised that he hadn't heard her. Ash was once again lost in thought. He looked like he had a million thoughts running through his head. She wondered what had gotten him so worked up.

Misty tried to hide her face in her book and focus on the class but she couldn't stop herself from stealing a quick glimpse of Ash.
She could barely see him amidst all the people sitting between them. But it never took her eyes long to find Ash.

Ash slowly turned his heard towards Misty's seat.

Their eyes suddenly met and they were both taken aback. There was a strange sense of longing between their eyes that their hearts couldn't yet make out.
Misty wondered why it was so hard to look away from his eyes and Ash wondered why it was so easy to get lost in her eyes.

The bell rang and they looked away.
Everyone was busy gathering their things and the classroom was once again filled with chatter.
Amidst packing her things, Misty noticed her schedule and figured that she ought to check before her next class. Suddenly another schedule slipped out of her's, it was Ash's.
She was mad at herself for being so careless but now she was left with no choice but to go and return it.

Hesitating a bit, Misty moved towards Ash's bench and poked his shoulder slightly.
She didnt say anything and just held out the schedule in Ash's direction. He quickly caught on and took it from her hand.
Their hands slightly grazed against eachother but they pretended as if neither of them even noticed it.
Ash awkwardly thanked Misty and she was about to reply with the same awkwardness when a familiar voice interrupted them.
