The ceiling isn't very interesting to look at...
"Please, tell me more, Y/N." Wally's voice came from right next to me and when I turned my head to look, there he was, sat in his chair with a notepad and a pencil in each hand. He kind of looked like a therapist or something. I sat up on the love seat to face him. " Tell you more about what?" He gave me an amused look before explaining, "About you, silly." I felt a little embarrassed that I hadn't known, but complied with his request. "Well, I'm 21, but I'll be 22 in a few days... I like to sing even though I know that I'm not very good at it. My favorite colour is seafoam green. I just moved into a new home and things have been kind of crazy... Some strange things have been happening, like Barnaby's head going missing then turning up again with paint on his face. Oh, and my mom is trying to steal my house." There was a pause with only the sound of pencil scribbling on paper filled the room.
"Steal your home? Ha, ha, ha. She can't take something that doesn't belong to her, Y/N. Stealing is wrong." Yeah, thanks Wally. I know. Before I got a chance to reply, sarcastically or not, the walls and floor started to groan and squeak. Wally listened intently while nodding his head before speaking up again. "Home is right, Y/N...You won't have to worry about that anymore..."
Before I could ask why or what he meant by that, there was a knock at the door. Without an answer from Wally or I, in skipped Julie. She was cheerful and bouncy as ever, but something still felt kind of off with her, like she wasn't really supposed to be here. She bounced over and joined me on the loveseat, asking about what Wally and I were up to until she saw the notepad in Wally's hand. "Are you playing doctor? Oh! Can I play?!" She was bouncing in her seat, but Wally shot her down by correcting her, saying that he was trying to get to know the new neighbor, Me. Julie jumped at the opportunity to start her own barrage of questions, from my favorite foods to what I would take with me on a trip to the moon. She barely waited long enough for me to answer before firing the next question.
The longer this went on, the more I felt uneasy and when I glanced at Wally, I understood why... He was practically seething. I had never seen Wally angry in the cartoons... Julie's final question, however, caught both of us off guard. " Who is your favorite friend?"
" Pardon?" I had to ask, since I had been partially distracted. "You know, who is your favorite friend from the neighborhood? We're all friends, but who is your best friend?" Again, caught off guard by her zealousness, I stuttered to find an answer. When I looked to Wally for... Well, I'm not sure what for, but he looked just as eager as Julie to hear the answer, so I awkwardly obliged. "Uh, well... Like you said, we're all friends but if I had to pick a best friend...I guess I would pick Barnaby. He was always my favorite on the show."
There was complete silence after that. No one said a word, nothing made any sound, not even the faint hum or crackle of static that had been everpresent before. No one moved either. Julie stared at Wally with a nervous expression while Wally held no expresson at all. It was as if the world had come to a complete halt.
Then, everything went black.
I was left floating in empty space. I was the only thing to exist in that moment, until I wasn't. A pair of eyes came into view accompanied by a 'click' and the crackle of static like from an old TV turning on. The eyes stared straight ahead for a moment before shifting to look at me, still floating there. From all around me comes Wally's voice in an ominous tone,"Wrong choice, Y/N."
