I held my chin up with my hand, my elbow resting on the window ledge of the opened passenger door. I am sitting in the passenger seat with my feet dangling outside the side of the car my feet scraped against the gravelly shoulder of the country road. The cars were parked on the side of the road, Gemma Harper's car in front of Genevieve's. I lifted myself out of my seat and made my way over to Avery, Genevieve, and Gemma Harper gathered around the open hood of Leo the little red car.
"How is it looking?" I asked the girls, causing them to switch their gazes from the car's engine to my face.
"Honestly, none of us know what happened and Avery can't get ahold of any mechanics nearby. They're all closed." Gemma Harper answered me, I glanced over at Avery to see her face scrunching up while she talked to the cell phone pressed against her ear. I look back to Genevieve and Gemma Harper.
"Genevieve and I have a couple of friends that live nearby," I suggest.
"I'm not sure they would want to drive out to the middle of nowhere to rescue us." Genevieve reasons, chuckling slightly.
"I think it's worth a try! Besides, Leo will get them here in no time." I joke about Leo's tendency to speed. Genevieve smiles.
"Okay, call them." She says enthusiastically. I step a few feet away and pull out my cell phone. I scroll through my contacts until I find the corresponding contact and click on it. The phone rings a couple of times before it ends with a clicking noise,
"Hello?" I hear Oakley's voice chime through my cell phone.
"Hey Oakley, long time no chat!" I reply enthusiastically to him.
"Hey Sam, what'd you need?" He chuckles, and I echo him.
"Weird of you to assume I need something. Why can't I just call a friend to talk?" I say to him. Silence. "Okay fine, me and my friends are stranded. All the auto shops are closed." I explain to him. After a short period of silence, I hear him take a deep breath and then laugh,
"Yeah, me and Leo can drive out to you guys." He speaks. I hear shuffling in the background of his end, "where are you?"
"One second." I pull the phone away from my ear, "Gemma! Where are we?!" I catch Gemma Harper's attention.
"Uhm, just outside of Sarnia!" She yells back to me.
"Thanks for the help!" I yell belly-laughing then bring the cell phone back to my ear. "We are just outside Sarnia? You know what I'll just share my location with you." I tell Oakley.
"Okay sounds good. Send it to me on iMessage. Me and Leo will leave in a few minutes." He tells me. I smile.
"Great! Oakley thank you so much! Tell Leo I say thank you too. Oh! And bring jumper cables! Kiss hug love."
"Yeah, no worries at all! See you soon." He says before hanging up. I slide my cell phone into the back pocket of my jean shorts and walk back over to Gemma Harper and Genevieve. Avery has now joined Niko and Nova where they were taking pictures of the wildflowers on the side of the road.
"Leo and Oakley are coming," I say to Gemma Harper and Genevieve.
"Ha 'coming'" Genevieve laughs and I just smile at her. Gemma Harper chuckles too.
"Perfect! We can finally get this show on the road soon." Gemma Harper says excitedly.
"Yes! I haven't seen Oakley and Leo in forever." Genevieve says looking at me.
"Yeah, we really haven't seen them in a while. It's definitely been a few months." I speak."One hundred percent." Genevieve agrees with me.
------------
We were all gathered around Jazzy Blue, sitting in the gravel in silence watching the sunset. Headlights shine on our group and the sound of car tires crushing the gravel beneath us filled our ears. I look over to see Leo's black Chevrolet Malibu. Genevieve rises to her feet, I follow suit. Oakley is the first to climb out of the car, slamming the passenger door behind him. Oakley stands at about six feet tall with flowy blonde hair and the most beautiful green and blue eyes. He waves his lanky hand at us. He saunters over to us, his baby blue Converse crunching against the gravel.
