title : downfall of a rich girl oc / pairing : angelina greene - johnston trigger warnings : mentions of physical abuse

IT WASN'T THAT ANGELINA DIDN'T APPRECIATE ALL THE riches that she had. She did. She appreciated that her family was able to live comfortably. She appreciated that they had more than enough money to pay for their own house, food, gas, electric, and water bill. She was grateful that they lived near the Broadway stage and got to see shows any time she wanted. She appreciated all of that.
What she didn't appreciate was her family's mistreatment.
The way that her family stuck their nose up at someone when they needed help. Especially when it came to homeless people on the street. Angelina would have to secretly put money in their tin can or their guitar case when her family wasn't looking at her.
The way that her family constantly brag about how much money they make in the family business. Every dinner party they managed to go to, either her mother or father had to bring it up. To them, including her brother and sister, it was wonderful. To Angelina, it was embarrassing to know that her family cared about money more than a human being.
When Angelina didn't abide by their rules, they would act so cruel toward her. Specifically, her older brother Maverick, who continuously got drunk whenever he felt like it. And sometimes, he treated Angelina like his own personal punching bag because she didn't have the same views as them. She would have to lock her bedroom door to feel safe, and even then, it didn't really work.
"Open the fucking door, Angel!" Maverick would drunkenly shout while he banged on the door.
She would push her desk chair under the doorknob and cower in the corner. Her knees bent up to her chest as she cried. She would wait this out until Maverick got tired and went back to his room and passed out.
You would think Angelina's younger sister would help. But Vanessa was snooty, maybe even more than her mother and father. She would make fun of the beautiful sweaters and dresses that she sewed. Sometimes even ruining them.
"Nessa, quit it! Leave my things alone!" Angelina begged.
"Oooh, what is this thing right here?" Nessa would ask, acting if she were interested, "You wouldn't mind if I just ..."
The sheer noise of the ripping made Angelina scrunch up her nose. She's almost in tears.
"Whoops. Gonna have to re-sew that," her sister snickered.
It's not the first time Nessa has stolen or ruined something of hers. She tried to ruin her reputation at school. It only works halfway until Angelina comes with the receipts, per usual. Nessa and Maverick even tried to break up any relationships that they didn't approve of.
But they couldn't scare off Stuart Johnston.
A boy from Brooklyn who wore dark clothes and glasses. His long hair framed his face perfectly. With those dark clothes he wore an attitude that scared half the school away. Angelina used to hate him. Maybe it was because of his snarky attitude. Or it might've been the fact that he had to tutor her in algebra.
She met him after school with sunglasses on her face one day. He couldn't even focus because she had them on. Angelina refused to take them off. But when she did, his whole mood shifted. Angelina has been hiding a black eye under those glasses.
"Who did it?" Stuart asked.
"Stu─"
"Who. Did. It?"
Angelina looked down at her hands, almost too embarrassed to say. "Maverick," She answered in the tiniest voice.
She can tell his pissed off. The way he's twisting his own ring, his hand in a fist. Brown eyes pierce through those classes, looking at her.
"Is he outside?"
Angelina gives a nod. She looked up at him, and he's already standing up. When she watched him walk out of the library, she soon followed, scared of what might happen.
"Stuart! Stu don't do this," Angelina begged, "Stu, please!"
It's too late. Stuart isn't listening, and Angelina witnesses the fight between him and her brother. Maverick is out cold on the concrete of the school parking lot. She watches as Stuart spits out blood, a tooth coming out in the process.
"Why did you do that?!" Angelina asked, scared out of her mind, "Stuart, why did you do that? My parents are gonna kill me─"
"A man does not put their hands on a woman ever," Stuart told her, "He will not hurt you again on my watch, do you understand me?"
Angelina only gives a nod. She doesn't know what else to say. She's never had anyone protect her. She's never had anyone believe anything that she says about her siblings. Stuart did. But, she didn't know why he did.
"C'mon," Stuart said, taking his keys out of his pocket, "Your brother can't drive right now, so you're gonna stay with me."
Angelina hesitated. She knew that if her parents found out about this, let alone knew she was going into Stuart Johnston's car, they would have a fit. She stood there, she pretty much dissociated after watching them fight.
"Angel," Stuart called, it's stern, yet soft.
It's what snapped Angelina out of her trance - like state. Not because of the sternness, but because of how gentle it was. No one said her name gently. Not even Stuart. Well, up until now.
She gets into the car, and it's the first that she's sensed a bit of peace. And staying with Stuart's family gave her a sense of what an actual family was supposed to be like. And when her own family kicked her out of the house after another argument about her running the family business, Edith and Jonah gave her the guest room.
Angelina was able to enjoy her passions, and find even more living in the Johnston home. And when her and Stuart moved out of Edith and Jonah's home, that was when she made the decision to cut her family off. No contact. Her and Stuart go to college together. They have a beautiful daughter and they live a quiet life in Queens. Even got jobs designing costumes on Broadway while her husband became a lawyer. They had more than enough support from Stuart's family. They weren't the richest, but they were happy.
To everyone else, it may seem like it was the downfall of a rich girl. Angelina called it a happy ending.
