It was early in the morning when Detective Mills came in for work.
It was winter by now and still dark outside. The sun just went back into the Snooze-Mode.
As he went through the door, he spotted someone in his chair in a police uniform.

He sighed.

If someone was at his desk, it mostly wasn't a good sign. And if someone sat in his chair, it meant, that someone was higher than him, needed to talk urgently to him and he wasn't sure, if that ever was a good sign.
As soon as he was in the eyesight, the chair spun in his direction.

On his seat, sat Athena Grant.
A Sergeant, who was honored more times than most people. And if it weren't for her background and the darker times with the LAPD, he was sure that this woman wouldn't be here at the moment.
Or at least not only as a Sergeant.

"Sergeant Grant. What can I do for you?", he asked, unable to hide that he knew that she wasn't here for pleasantries.
Her eyes showed no sympathy, goodwill, or a hint of what she wanted. "I heard you closed the cases, is something still missing or open?"

Instead of answering him, she rolled aside and two piles of files embellished his desk.

"Welcome Detective. Yes, I luckily found the evidence we needed.", she answered smiling.
Her eyes fixated on him like a hunter on prey. Her look showed no mercy.

And he knew, one wrong word and he would be dead meat.

"Also in the meantime, I waited for you, I overlooked cases you hadn't worked on by now. I did a little bit of work for you. Just 45 Minutes. And I found at least 20 cases on the wrong pile."

She pointed at the large one.

"Those are the unclear ones, that have potential criminal backgrounds. In 75 % of the cases, that I sorted new, the fingerprints weren't put in the system. An explanation? No?"
He didn't dare to say something.
His colleagues started to look, at what was going on.
"28 of the last cases you worked on, weren't that urgent."

He sunk into himself and wished he could disappear, that it was a bad dream. But it wasn't.
She paused for a short moment for everyone to let the information set in stone.

And then continued:
"That's for today. I informed your supervisor about this. WE meet again next week. I hope that the urgent pile is then reduced. And that without putting them back again or closing them without further investigation.
THEN we will talk about the case you really fucked up, nearly destroyed someone's life, and caused so much trauma."

During the whole monologue, she never raised her voice, never stood up, never took her eyes off the man in front of her.
She clearly showed her power, her leadership skills and that she was no one who should ever be messed with.

She left the seat. " I see you next week."
And when he didn't answer, her expression darkened, causing him to nod as fast as possible.

As she left the station, she recognized some hidden smiles.
It seemed that even under his colleagues, he wasn't a favored one.

Outside the station were Eddie, Bobby, and Hen.
Unable to hide their malicious joy, every now and then a larger grin twitched across their faces.

"I haven't even started yet. Are you going to settle for that already?" asked Athena.

"Your revenge is as good as your food. Even the starter is excellent." said Hen.
"And the best thing is that she's not even violating any regulations." Bobby praised his wife, "although I'm happy to be on this side," he added.
"Damn Athena. Not even Tía Pepa, Abuela, or my father would have managed it at your level. And Bobby knows how bad we can be when we're pissed," Eddie praised her, unable to hide his evident joy.
