Though her mother would never blame her, she knew deep down her mother was ashamed of her. William Carver's honey words persuaded her and her family to migrate to his camp. She was promised that her family would be safe. That they wouldn't have to fight anymore. As soon as she realized it was a lie, it was too late. Her family was forced to work for Carver under harsh conditions.
Caroline would go through all kinds of abuse under Carver's reign. She was exploited in so many ways. She tried to act like she didn't care. She acted brave in front of her twelve year old sister, to no avail. Her sister was a smart girl, she could see right through her. This was all for Eden. As long as she wasn't hurt, that's all that mattered to her.
That one night, Luke had a plan for everyone to leave. Though she was skeptical, her mother had decided that they would leave.
