Donatella POV:

I hate my birthday. I know, totally random, right? But hear me out—it's not your typical birthday tale. I mean, being kidnapped on that day? That's a whole different story, one I'd rather not relive.

It was supposed to be a day like any other, filled with laughter and celebration. One moment, I was surrounded by my friends and family, the next, I was in a strange place, held captive by people who didn't care about my cake or my wish.

On your big day, your family gathers to shower you with love and cheer. But there's one more crucial ingredient you can't forget: pure, unadulterated happiness!

It's not like I'm lacking in happiness—at least, not completely. Amir and Demitri always manage to sprinkle some joy into my life, even in this twisted world we live in. But hey, there's still room for more happiness, like a real family, I guess.

You know, Demitri and Amir have always had my back, and I adore them like family. But deep down, I can't shake the feeling that they aren't my kin.

I sighed as I lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. My thoughts spiraled as they often did on this day, the weight of unfulfilled wishes pressing down on me. A real family. True happiness. Were those things even possible anymore?

A loud knock on my door jolted me out of my thoughts. Of course. There's no room for sentimentality in this world, I reminded myself.

"What?!" I yelled, my irritation bubbling over.

The door swung open, revealing Amir, his ever-present grin lighting up the dim room. "Well, good morning to you too, sleeping beauty," he said, a teasing lilt in his voice.

"What do you want, Amir? You better not be asking me to make breakfast for you at this hour. It's 1:00 AM; it better be a good reason," I replied, my tone unsettlingly calm, though inside I was already bracing for his antics.

Amir let out a chuckle. "As tempting as that sounds, that's not it. Demitri has a new mission lined up for us. Suit up and head down to The Room; he'll give you the details."

And just like that, he was gone, leaving me alone with my swirling thoughts.
