Takeru's eyes scanned the crowded hallway, searching for a familiar face. It had been years since he'd set foot in this school, and the nostalgia was overwhelming. He spotted a group of friends laughing and chatting, but his gaze lingered on a lone figure standing by the lockers.

The boy's dark hair was messy, and his piercing green eyes seemed lost in thought.Takeru's heart skipped a beat as he felt an inexplicable pull towards the stranger.

"Takeru!" A friend's voice made him snap out of his trance.

Takeru turned, smiling, and exchanged warm greetings with his classmates. But his attention kept drifting back to the mysterious boy.

As he approached his locker, the boy's eyes locked onto his.Takeru felt a jolt of recognition, but couldn't quite place it.

"Kakeru?" The name escaped his lips before he could censor it.

The boy's expression changed from curiosity to shock. "T-Takeru?"

Takeru's eyes widened as the pieces clicked into place. It was Kakeru, his childhood best friend, who had vanished without a trace years ago.

Kakeru's face lit up with a radiant smile. "It's been a long time."

Takeru's heart raced as he struggled to process the reunion. He had so many questions, but all that came out was: "You're back."

Kakeru nodded, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "I'm back."

Without thinking,Takeru wrapped Kakeru in a tight hug. The familiarity of Kakeru's scent and warmth flooded him with emotions.

As they parted, Kakeru's gaze roamed Takeru's face, searching for something. "You've changed," Kakeru said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Takeru chuckled. "You have too."

Their eyes met, and for a moment, everything around them-the bustling students, the echo of laughter, the faint scent of freshly polished floors-faded into the background. It was just the two of them, standing there, tethered by years of lost time and the weight of their unspoken history.

Takeru couldn't help but notice how Kakeru's once-boyish features had matured, the playful spark in his green eyes tempered by something darker, something distant. But despite the years, there was still that same energy between them-an invisible thread connecting their past to this unexpected present.

"I thought I'd never see you again," Takeru admitted, his voice low, as if speaking too loudly might shatter the moment. "Where did you go?"

Kakeru hesitated, the light in his eyes dimming slightly. "It's... complicated." His gaze shifted, focusing on the lockers behind Takeru as if they held the answer to his secrets. "But I'm back now, and that's what matters, right?"

Takeru could tell there was more to the story, but he didn't want to push. Not yet. "Yeah," he said with a soft smile. "That's what matters."

The bell rang, signaling the start of the next period, pulling them both out of their bubble. Students began to file into classrooms, but Takeru found it hard to move, his feet rooted to the spot. He had so many questions. So many things he wanted to ask Kakeru.

"Are you... staying this time?" Takeru asked, the question hanging heavy between them.

Kakeru's smile faltered for just a second before he nodded. "Yeah, I'm here to stay."

But there was something in his tone-something that didn't quite match the certainty of his words.

Takeru wanted to believe him. He wanted to believe that Kakeru was really back for good, that they could pick up where they left off, but a nagging doubt settled in the pit of his stomach.

"We should catch up after school," Kakeru said suddenly, breaking the silence. "I mean, if you're free?"

Takeru nodded quickly. "Of course! Let's meet at the park, like old times?"

Kakeru's smile returned, brighter this time, like a glimpse of the boy Takeru used to know. "I'd like that."

They exchanged a few more quick words before heading to their separate classes, but even as Takeru sat down in his seat, the familiar hum of the classroom felt distant. His mind was on Kakeru-on the mystery of where he'd been, and why his return felt both like a gift and a warning.

The rest of the day dragged on, but when the final bell rang, Takeru found himself practically sprinting out of the school, his heart racing with anticipation. He made his way to the park, the old meeting spot where he and Kakeru used to play as kids.

When he arrived, Kakeru was already there, leaning against a tree, staring up at the clouds. The soft evening light cast long shadows across the park, and for a moment, Takeru felt like he was stepping back in time.

"Hey," Kakeru greeted him with a small smile as Takeru approached. "Just like old times, huh?"

"Yeah," Takeru replied, though he couldn't shake the feeling that something had changed-something more than just the years between them.

They talked for a while, reminiscing about their childhood adventures, the games they used to play, the secrets they used to share.

Takeru smiled warmly at Kakeru. "Remember when we used to explore the woods behind our houses?"

Kakeru's eyes lit up. "How could I forget? You always found the best shortcuts!"

Takeru laughed. "And you always got us lost!"

They chuckled, reminiscing about their childhood adventures.

"What was your favorite game we played?" Kakeru asked, curiosity sparkling in his eyes.

Takeru's face glowed. "Hide-and-seek in the cornfield! I always found the best hiding spots."

Kakeru grinned. "Until I found you, and we'd chase each other out!"

As they reminisced, their faces shone with joy, reliving happy memories.

But as the sun began to dip below the horizon, the conversation grew quieter, more tentative.

Takeru grinned. "See you tomorrow, Kakeru!"

Kakeru chuckled. "Yeah, can't avoid me that easily!"

Takeru playfully rolled his eyes. "Like I'd try!"

They shared a friendly high-five.

"Later, Kakeru!" Takeru called out.

"Later, Takeru! See you tomorrow!

As Kakeru turned to leave, Takeru couldn't shake the feeling that their reunion was only the beginning of something far more dangerous.
