James's POV
(Time skip to a day later)Kevin and I were eating breakfast at the kitchen table. When Dad walked in. "Guys, I have exciting news". Dad said stopping in front of Kevin, Mom, and I. "James has aids?" Kevin asked excitedly with a big smile.
"What? No! That's horrible". Dad said looking at Kevin. "I'd be excited". Kevin said again with a smirk I looked at him. "Well, what is it? What is it?'' Mom asked Dad again excitedly.
"The four of us are gonna take a little trip". Dad answered looking at Kevin, Mom, and I. "Paris". Mom said looking at Dad with 'omg really?' eyes. "Hmm? No. Much better". Dad said back to mom shaking his head.
"We're driving to Wally world". Dad continued with a bright smile looking at three of us (mom, Kevin and I). "What?" Mom asked kinda disappointed.
"This family's in a rut. We gotta shake things up. Right? Spend a little quality time. And of course it wouldn't hurt for the boys to learn to get along a little better". Dad said back to Mom looking at Kevin and I. "By locking them in a car together?" Mom asked again with 'that's not gonna work in her voice'.
"Yeah". Dad answered looking at mom and mom nodding slowly. "This is some bullshit right here!" Kevin yelled hitting the table. "Hey language". Mom yelled at him. "Well, it is". Kevin yelled back.
"I'm gonna miss the first week of wrestling practice!" Kevin continued. "We'll find a wrestling range along the way". Dad said trying to reason with him. "That's not a thing!" Kevin said continuing to yell.
"And, Dad, no offense, but I just don't wanna do my first big road trip to some corporate theme park, you know? I'd like to explore the real America like, uh, Jack Kerouac, or the Merry Pranksters". I told Dad and Kevin Hit me twice.
"Don't say weird shit!" He yelled pointing a finger in my face. "Ow! Ow!" I yelled. "Kevin! Bullying! Guys, come on. My trip to Wally world when I was a kid was the best time I ever had". Dad said still trying to get us to go.
"So you just wanna redo you vacation from 30 years ago?" Mom asked Dad. "Don't you think that's gonna be kind of a let down?" Mom continued with 'are you sure?' in her voice. "No, no, no, no. We're not redoing anything. This will be completely different. For one thing, the original vacation has a boy and a girl. This one has two boys. And I'm sure that there will be lots of other differences". Dad said really wanting us to agree.
"I never even heard of the original vacation". I said looking at Dad. "Doesn't matter. The new vacation will stand on its own". Dad said to me before he walked over to mom. "Okay? Come on honey. What do you say? We can drive out and fly back". Dad continued walking up to mom.
"Oh, what the heck. It couldn't be as bad as that stupid cabin, right honey?" Mom said agreeinh with Dad hugging him. Kevin and I looked at each other. "That's the spirit". Dad said happyly kissing mom's forehead.
Kevin sighed and said ''Fuck me". "Are we gonna drive all that way in your little car Dad?" I asked. "Not exactly". Dad answered more excitedly pulling out some keys and shaking them.
James's POV
(Time skip outside)"Look what your dad rented". Dad said with his arm around my shoulder. "What the hell is that?" Kevin asked with 'wtf' in his voice and eyes. "Kevin". Dad said looking at Kevin. "It's a 2015 Tartan Prancer". Dad answered Kevin letting my shoulder go. "Yeah. Tarnan's the Honda of Albania". Dad answered.
"Why'd you get an Albanian car, Dad? I asked. "Well it turns out renting a family car on Memorial Day weekend doesn't leave you with a lot of options so, but you this baby is pretty sweet it's got all the latest Albanian technology check it out: plug in hybrid". Dad said walking up to the car and pulling out a plug in.
"Oh, wow. Eco-friendly good". Mom said. "So anytime we run outta juice, we can pull right over, And....plug in. I don't-- I don't know what that is". Dad said showing mom and I the plug Kevin had run to the other side of the car. "I've never seen a outlet for that before". Mom said with a chuckle and I bit the bottom of my lip and shook my head.
Kevin pushed the car door handle to open it but.............
"Cup holder?" Kevin asked himself. "Doesn't matter we still got two gas tanks". Dad said while Kevin walked up to Mom and I. "Why two?" I asked. "Carry twice as much gas". Dad answered me walking up to Kevin, mom and I with 'duh' in his voice. "Why not just have one big tank?" I asked again. "It's twice the gas buddy". Dad answered me again. "It's actually the same volume. Two sma-" I was cut off by dad shushing me.(Time skip)
