The checkered blanket, felt like a welcome hug beneath you as you snuggled with Scott. You'd liked him ever since you first saw him on the lacrosse bench, his dark hair tousled and his eyes gleaming. Even then, there was a spark in his gaze that made your heart skip a beat.Tonight, under the glow of the full moon, you propped yourself up on your elbows, turning to Scott with a smile. "Isn't it beautiful?" you asked, your voice laced with a fondness that only came from Scott's presence.Scott, however, was staring up at the moon with a furrowed brow. A beat of silence stretched between you, thick and heavy, before he stammered, "Y/N, I, uh... I forgot Stiles needed help with something. Really important." His cheeks flushed a  red in the moonlight, and you knew something was up. Concern, laced your voice. "Hey, is everything okay?",Scott nodded quickly, his movements unconvincing. "Yeah, Stiles just really needs my help with this... thing." His voice trailed off, and you noticed a flicker of something in his eyes you couldn't quite decipher. Ignoring the disappointment that coiled in your gut, you forced a smile. "Go help Stiles then. I'll see you later?"
Scott leaned down and kissed the top of your head, his touch lingering a beat too long. "Yeah, of course," he mumbled, but his smile didn't quite reach his eyes. It was a weak imitation of the usual carefree grin that stole your heart every time. "Love you" you said straining a smile, "Love you too" Scott said absentmindedly, you watched as Scott disappeared into the woods. Concern and disappointment swirling in your stomach. You laid back on the checkered blanket, the once comforting warmth now a stark reminder of Scott's absence. Sighing, you closed your eyes, the silence punctuated only by the occasional hoot of an owl.
•••
You woke with a shiver, the cold seeping into your bones. Disoriented, you sat up and fumbled for your phone, willing away the hollowness that had taken root in your stomach. The time on the screen blinked accusingly: 11:30 pm. Scott had been gone for an hour and a half.
Heavy disappointment, settled in your stomach. You scrolled through your phone, each like and comment the opposite of what you felt. You burrowed deeper into the blanket, and decided to wait a little longer for Scott to come back.
But as the minutes bled into hours, your hope began to dwindle. Tired and dejected, you started to clean up the picnic stuff. The checkered blanket felt limp and lifeless in your hands, the uneaten sandwiches a sad reminder of your interrupted date. It had been 4 hours since Scott left, 4 hours of unanswered calls and texts, of growing concern laced with a cold anger.
You bundled the checkered blanket tighter in  your arms, the soft fabric now a scratchy reminder of the night's disappointment. The picnic basket felt heavy, not just from the uneaten food, but from the weight of concern and disappointment.  Heaving a sigh, you trudged towards your car, the leaves crunching under each step echoed in the quiet night.
As you tossed the picnic basket into the passenger seat, the car's dome light illuminated the tear tracks staining your cheeks.  Brushing them away angrily, you slammed the car door shut, and started the engine.
•The next morning•
The insistent throbbing in your head felt like a drum solo played on your skull. It was a surefire sign of the tears and worry that had wracked you the night before.  You reached over and fumbled for your phone on the nightstand, wincing at the brightness that assaulted your eyes as you turned on the screen. 8:30 am glared back at you, no texts, no calls, not from Scott,or from Stiles.A sigh escaped your lips as you tossed the covers back and swung your legs over the edge of the bed.  The events of last night replayed in your mind in a loop, each unanswered question a fresh stab of disappointment.  You shuffled over to your dresser, pulling out a pair of well-worn jeans and a comfortable t-shirt.  Tossing them on, you reached for the familiar navy hoodie hanging on the back of your door. It was Scott's,the soft cotton held the lingering scent of his cologne. With your hair hastily pulled into a messy bun, you grabbed your keys and phone, shoving them into your pockets.Slipping on on your shoes, you decided to head over to Scott's house.
The drive over was fueled by a mix of worry and a simmering anger.  Pulling into Scott's driveway, you cast a glance at the darkened windows of his house.  You tried calling him and Stiles on the way over but it only went to voicemail.Taking a deep breath, you stepped out of your car and walked towards the door, your heart hammering a frantic rhythm against your ribs. You knocked on the door a couple times, coming face to face with Stiles. "Y/n!"He said nervously "What are you doing here?"."Checking on you and Scott, since neither of you know how to answer your phone",you said rolling your eyes.
"Oh well Scott's asleep right now,um I'll call you when he wakes up."Stiles ran his hand through his hair, drawing your attention to the cut on his face.
"What happened to your face?" You asked furrowing your brow.Stiles froze, struggling to come up with an excuse, ignoring him you slipped inside and started upstairs.Your heart pounded in your chest as you ascended the stairs, each creak of the floorboards echoed in the tense silence.

Reaching Scott's room, you pushed open the door to find him lying on his bed, his face paler. His body covered in bruises, and cuts sends a wave of fear crashing through you."Scott!" you cried rushing to his side,Scott flinched slightly at your voice as his eyes fluttered open. "Y/n," he said groggily "What are you doing here?", "I was checking on you," you say your voice trembling slightly "You didn't come back last night, and then you and Stiles weren't answering my texts,". You wiped away a few stray tears "What happened to you?",Scott sat up wincing as he did so,he then patted the space next to him.You sat down carefully as to not hurt Scott, "Y/n,I'm a werewolf,I got bit last time you went on holiday,I left last night because it was a full moon and I haven't learned total control yet,and I'm so sorry I didn't text or call my phone got destroyed, and I love you so much and I'm so sorry I upset you-"Scott rambled tears in his eyes, you cut him off with a kiss. Pulling apart for a breath you smiled at him "I love you Scott,no matter what",you watched as Scott visibly relaxed. "I'm so lucky to have you" Scott said wistfully before leaning in for another kiss.
