You were sitting on the bleachers with Jackie watching the cheerleaders practice, when her phone dinged. "Oh I forgot I was supposed to meet Alex, talk to you later?" You gave her a forced smile "Yeah, see you later",with that she walked off.You sighed,You were happy for Jackie and Alex, but sometimes it sucked being alone. The only bright spot in your day? Seeing Cole Walter across the field, leaning against the fence and gazing at the football practice. You like every other girl in school had fallen for the Cole effect, something Jackson loved to tease you about whenever you glanced at him.
As if sensing your gaze, Cole's head snapped in your direction, you quickly looked away, a blush warming your cheeks. But then, to your surprise, Cole began walking towards you. Your heart hammered in your chest. What could he possibly want?As Cole approached, you fumbled with your phone, pretending to be engrossed in a text. He stopped a few feet in front of you, a hesitant smile playing on his lips.
"Hey," he said, his voice a touch raspy. "You're (Y/N), right?"
You glanced up, surprised. "Uh, yeah. Hi, Cole."
"Jackie's friend?"
"Yeah," you confirmed, a flicker of hope igniting in your chest. "She, uh, ditched me to go see Alex."
Cole chuckled. "Classic Jackie. So, what are you doing out here all alone?"
You shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "Just watching practice. Can't exactly cheer anymore, thanks to my knee." You gestured vaguely at your leg.
Cole's smile softened. "Yeah, I saw what happened. Rough break."
You sighed. "Tell me about it. Surgery and weeks of PT. Not exactly my idea of fun."
"Well," Cole said, leaning against the bleachers beside you, "misery loves company, right? I know a thing or two about being sidelined myself."
Intrigued, you raised an eyebrow. "You do?"
A wry smile touched Cole's lips. "Yeah, tore my ACL playing football  last year. Doc says my playing days are over."
Disappointment flickered in your eyes, but you quickly masked it. "That's awful, Cole. I know how much you loved football ."
He shrugged, his gaze lingering on you for a beat too long. "Yeah, it stings. But hey, at least we're not stuck at practice, right?"
The playful glint in his eyes sent a shiver down your spine. "True," you admitted, a smile tugging at your lips.
An idea seemed to spark in Cole's eyes. "Actually," he began, leaning in conspiratorially, "how about we skip the rest of this torture session and grab some burgers instead?"
A thrill shot through you. Skipping school with Cole Walter? It sounded like the perfect escape. But a flicker of doubt appeared.
"Wouldn't that be, you know, skipping school?"
Cole smirked. "Maybe. But trust me, it'll be way more fun than watching paint dry over there."
He raised an eyebrow, a challenge in his gaze. Your heart pounded in your chest. This was insane, but the allure of adventure with Cole was irresistible.
Taking a deep breath, you met his gaze with a determined glint. "Alright, Walter. You're on." A mischievous grin lit up your face, the pain in your knee momentarily forgotten as you followed Cole to the parking lot.
Taking a deep breath, you met his gaze with a determined glint. "Alright, Walter. You're on." A mischievous grin lit up your face, the pain in your knee momentarily forgotten as you embarked on an unexpected adventure with Cole.
The afternoon unfolded like a dream. You devoured juicy burgers at the Lark cafe, laughing with Cole as you shared stories. He was funny, charming, and surprisingly easy to talk to. As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the cafe, Cole's gaze softened.
"So," he began hesitantly, "I know things haven't exactly been easy for you lately. But, uh, are you feeling any better?"
Your heart skipped a beat. "Thanks to you, Cole, I am. Today was... perfect."
A genuine smile spread across his face. "That's good to hear, Y/N, would you like to be my girlfriend?"
Tears welled up in your eyes. "Yes, Cole. I'd love to."
The world seemed to fade away as Cole leaned in, his lips meeting yours in a sweet, lingering kiss. It was everything you'd ever dreamed of and more.
