Standing across from me in the other cell was Christine. I remember what Michael's parents told me; she was his girlfriend in med school who broke things off with him after his fixation, obsession, and jealousy. They told me that when she received that letter from Michael, she changed her name and left town, no one ever saw her again. HOW DID HE FIND HER? WHY WAS SHE HERE?
"Y-you're Michael's ex-girlfriend?" I asked
"H-how did you know?" she asked
"His parents told me about you. How you two used to date, but you broke things off when you got a job offer, but then he started to stalk you, and you disappeared after a threatening note," I said
"You're so right; I did vanish and leave. I was so terrified I changed my name and moved to Canada to start over. I was fine for the past five years until one day..." she said
*deep breathes*
"What happened?" I asked

I traveled to New York to visit some friends of mine. We decided to meet up at the diner for brunch. While we were having fun, I saw Michael. He was talking to a friend, but I panicked and ran out when he saw me. Of course, he chased after me and tried to speak to me.
I told him I wanted Nothing to do with him. He tried apologizing for his behavior and actions, and although I had forgiven him, I wanted no part of him. He started telling me about his divorce, which I didn't want to hear. I told him I've moved on, and I'm happily engaged to be married. I left him standing there and returned to my friends.
I wish I never told him I was engaged. I had no idea he would take such drastic measures.
"What do you mean?" asked Lina
"He followed me back to the Airbnb condo I rented in Brooklyn. I was getting ready for a cocktail dinner when he broke in and used chloroform on me. I passed out, and like you, the next thing I remember, I was brought here.
