Sometimes I wonder if Sara actually likes me, you know, as a friend, of course. We've been friends since we were kids, and our friendship has lasted to the present. She's always surrounded in her old world, full of friends, guys, parties, you name it. She is basically the opposite of me; I am just a plain good old nerd. Sara is my only friend, at least that is what she says, though she basically forces herself to hang out with me because she pities the fact that I have no one else. After the betas fought for justice against their unfair treatment against the alphas, we have been distinct prey for the alphas, and not many exist anymore. My mother and father were respectable betas, always fighting for their rights against the opposing forces, although that ended once the Alvarez alphas found them and slaughtered them. I don't remember much, I was around 8 years old, and I try to shelter those moments away from my brain. The only other beta I know now is, in fact, Sara, which may be the only reason why she talks to me, because we are the only few left of our kind. Sara does oppose against the alphas conceptions of us, though she doesn't mention much because she's from a respectable family who aren't hunted down as much compared to the rest. Sometimes I wonder if Sara does have any threats in her life, because she clearly is somehow liked by everyone. All that can be praised of me are my grades, as I've put all my focus on them to hope for a successful future for me and my kind.

"Lana Rana! Come, let's go to the football game after school!" Sara said as she ran up to me sitting in the canteen amongst my thoughts. I wonder why she calls me Lana Rana, I guess it always just stuck with her, she has nicknames for everything and everyone.

"Uh, yeah, sure," I replied.

Sara's phone buzzed with a text message. She opened it and quickly texted back, looking somewhat upset when she replied.

"Sorry Lana, Amy just texted me, asking if I wanted to go with the group. Maybe we can go another time." Sara mumbled. Her ears turned pink as she spoke.

"Oh, that's fine." I said. I should've known there was no way I would've actually gone with her. She is, after all, Sara Creed, the perfect beta to exist.
