He hated this
He couldn't bear to witness her in such a state. Her appearance was haunting—her skin pallid, her cheeks hollow, and her body marred with cuts and bruises, as fragile as glass, liable to shatter with the gentlest touch.
It pained him deeply to see her this way, especially after just reuniting with her. The realization that Juliet may have endured abuse, likely at the hands of Vanessa, shattered him.
Questions plagued his mind: How long had she suffered alone? Why hadn't she confided in them? Why hadn't she confided in him?
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door, and Scarlet entered with a cup of coffee. "Hey, I brought you some coffee. You've been here for quite some time."
"Thank you," he murmured, but his gaze remained fixed on Juliet's unconscious form. He sensed Scarlet's presence beside him, her eyes trained on Juliet with a mixture of stoicism and underlying pain.
"I should have seen the signs, paid more attention to her," Scarlet said quietly, her voice heavy with regret.
He studied her closely, sensing her inner turmoil. "Scarlet, can you be honest with me?" he asked, his tone gentle yet probing.
He watched her intently, attuned to every nuance of her reaction. "Did Vanessa ever do anything to you?" he repeated, his voice steady but filled with concern. Scarlet's reaction was palpable—her widened eyes, the tightening grip on the coffee cup, and the slight tremor in her hand.
For a moment, it seemed as though she might speak, but then she closed her mouth abruptly, unable to form the words.
"Why would you ask me that?" She asked quietly.
" I remember Vanessa wasn't exactly the most caring mother," Dante explained gently. "She was more focused on her parties and social life than on us. I recall she could be neglectful and sometimes even violent, especially towards you three."
"Well, I don't know what you're talking about. Mom never did anything to us,"
Scarlet replied defensively."Are you sure?" Dante pressed, his concern evident.
Scarlet hesitated, then snapped, "Can you just drop it?" Dante's eyes widened at her sudden outburst.
"Juliet is lying here in the hospital, and you're here interrogating me?" Scarlet retorted, her frustration palpable.
"Juliet being here is precisely why I'm asking you this," Dante responded calmly. "The extent of Juliet's bruises, cuts, and other injuries is not normal, Scarlet. Someone has been hurting her, and possibly you too."
"Well, I'm fine," Scarlet insisted.
"Really?" Dante challenged.
