Hundred people were here; I only knew the half of them. I had this feeling, that all of this was a reason to reunite every rich people and debate on what will happen now that the "Kook Queen" is dead. Most of them told me "I'm so sorry for you loss", but they were strangers. I didn't understand how Bobby Heyward was there but Ward didn't show up even for a minute. He had to be there; the entire Cameron family was there, without him. Strangers gave me handshakes, shoulder taps, as if that would comfort me. They knew nothing. Nothing would comfort me. Even the tears didn't drop on my cheeks. My mom was dead, and I didn't cry for her death. I loved her. I love her. But the tears weren't there. I had no reason to cry anymore; that wouldn't bring her back. My silence was awful, even for me.
After the funeral, I came back home and started to go upstairs to join my room.
"Not even one tear, Tessa? She would be so disappointed," said my dad while staring at me, a glass of whiskey in his hand.
"I'm sorry," I responded in a monotone voice.
I went upstairs, I closed the door, sat on my bed, and stayed there. I wasn't sorry; I didn't choose her end; I didn't unplug the machinery that kept her alive- he did it. So, it was him who had to apologize.

ONE YEAR LATER

John B works for the Camerons, the family who lives next door. He always makes some loud noises every morning and today is not exception. That wakes me up. I look at the time on my phone: 7:00 AM. John B doesn't know the pleasure that he steals from me by ruining my lie-in. I get up and put on a pant before joining my garden which cohabits with the Camerons. He sees me and stops his work while looking as I approach.
"Well, well, well, good morning, Kook Princess," he laughs with a royal tone.
"Hi. I don't know if you know but when the boats aren't in the marsh, that means it's not the time to wake up," I say.
"Always a pleasure to talk to you!" he smiles.
I look down before smirking and turning around. I go back to my house and return to my bed. Seconds pass and the noise from John B stops. John B is a good guy, but he's a pogue. The kooks and the pogues don't mix, and even though I think this rule is stupid, I can't break it, or I'll end up sleeping on the grass of my garden after my dad would kicks me out of the house.
I fall asleep again and wake up for good at 10:00 AM. I go straight into the shower; the warm water slips over my skin. I add soap and rub it to create bubbles. I rinse everything with water and get out. I put on a light blue short and a bikini top. I go downstairs and discover my dad eating his breakfast, the famous Finn Smith. I still haven't forgotten the pain he caused me last year, but the hate has faded, and he has become my best friend again. I walk to the door.
"Where are you going?" he asks, mouth full.
"Sarah's! I'm late!" I respond while opening the door.
"I think you forgot something," he says, pointing to his cheek.
I chuckle and run to him before kissing his cheek. He gives me one, too. After that, I head out, join the Cameron house, and ring the bell.
"What are you doing here?" Rafe asks after opening the door.
"Is your sister here?" I say.
"I just got back; she must be in her room. Did you see Topper?"
"Maybe at Kelce's. Go check."
I walk under his arm as he stands in the doorway and start to go upstairs.
"Hey, Tess!" he calls.
"Yeah?"
"You look good today."
I look at him up and down before rolling my eyes. I go to Sarah's room. We have been best friends since we were born. Our parents were too, so we were raised as siblings, along with Rafe and Wheezie when she was born. I approach her door and open it violently, preparing to yell her name.
"Hi- ew!" I yell when I discover her and her boyfriend Topper, her tongue in his mouth.
"Always here to ruin things, Smith," he sighs.
"Ruin things, that's all me! I think Rafe waiting for you at Kelce's," I respond.
He looks at his watch and gets up quickly.
"Damn, you're right! Thanks, Tess!" he says before checking my hand.
I swipe it on my short afterward and close the door before lying on Sarah's bed, who touches her lips and smiles.
"So?" I say, making the "o" longer.
"Shut up," she chuckles.
I stare at her and wait a few seconds, debating whether my next question is a right one to ask.
"You want to have sex with him?" I finally ask.
