- TIME SKIP A FEW WEEKS -

- Y/N'S POV -

I was working as hard as I could to get river's present ready. It was River's birthday today and Ryan and me were scrambling to get his present wrapped on time. Ryan wasn't exactly graceful with his wrapping. Clearly he didn't know how.
"How ya doin' over there?" I said with a smirk at his struggles. He looked like he was getting madder ad madder with the box. He stopped and gave me a glare of annoyance.
"Just perfect..." He said sarcastically behind clenched teeth. I reached over and grabbed the gift from him and fixed the wrapping so that it looked nicer. He gave a sigh and grabbed it back from your hands. "thanks..."

- TIME SKIP -

It was a few hours later when River came back from work. Me, Ryan and Wyatt decked out the entire house with purple and black ribbons, banners, etc. Purple and black were his favorite so it was pretty fitting for him.
We all hid around the kitchen as soon as we heard the clicking and rattling of the door being unlocked. I heard the door slowly open as Wyatt looked over at me and Ryan. With his fingers, he counted down. 3...2...1
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIVER!" Everyone sprung up, including River who was jumped by the sudden yells. The shock on his face soon turned into a smile. Like the kind of smile a little kid would make.
"Oh my god, thank you all so much." He dropped his bag down by the door and walked his way over to all of us with the most pure smile on his face. He hugged his brother first then Wyatt while then moving on to me but instead of hugging me, he picked me up and spun me around in his arms. I could get a small whiff of his cologne and for some reason, it made me calm down a slight bit. His smile was apparent as I felt my cheeks start to heat up. He put me down finally.
After a few hours of drinking, cake, presents and goofing off, I was drunk. Like... drunk drunk. I knew it of course but I didn't care. In my defense, Wyatt was too. Ryan and River weren't light weights like me and Wyatt.

- RIVER'S POV -

I was sitting on the corner of the couch when I saw y/n walking over to me. Although it wasn't exactly walking but more of stumbling.
"Hheyyy..." she tried to talk but I could tell she wasn't doing so well.
Before I knew it though, she collapsed onto the couch, landing her head in my chest while the rest of her body just went limp. And just like that, she was out like a light. I gave a small smile by the look of her sleeping face before pushing her up into a laying down position and laying her on her side.
"Hey Riv, you should probably get her to bed." Ryan mentioned, trying to be quiet. Wyatt had already gone upstairs to bed by that point.
I gave a small sigh and smile before sitting her back up and standing her up, wrapping her arm around my shoulder to keep her up. She wasn't fully asleep yet as she did walk slightly with me. As I started to slowly walk to her room, I heard her mumble a lot. Mostly just little groans of tiredness but I could make out some small words like "I'm tired..." and "water..."
Eventually, I got her all the way up to her room. I walked her over to her bed and played her down, holding the back of her head as I placed her down.

- Y/N'S POV -

As soon as I felt the soft sheets of my bed, I snuggled right up into it. Although my mind was blank and my eyes were blurry, I still made out River staring over me and pulling my bedsheets over top of me.
"Mhmm... Riv..." I mumbled, although all I could see was him looking down at me with such caring eyes. My eyes slowly started to blacken and blur into darkness.

- TIME SKIP TO NEXT MORNING -

- RIVER'S POV -

Me and Ryan were both already downstairs by then making breakfast for everyone. Usually we would go out and get some but we didn't exactly want to leave the house with two hungover idiots.
"I'm gonna go check on y/n. Be right back." I said, placing down the coffee cup I was holding to go check on her.
I knocked on her door twice before cracking it open to see if she was in there.
"Y/n? You want some breakfast?" I said looking around her room even though wasn't there. I walked over to her bathroom door that was already open and saw her on the floor, leaning over the toilet, throwing up every bit of last night.
"Hey... hey you alright?" I made sure my voice was calm as I crouched down to her level, placing my hand on her back.

- Y/N'S POV -

My neck snapped around once I felt a hand on my back. But when I saw River, I calmed down, letting my breathing relax as my hand reached to flush the toilet. I moved over from it and leaned my back against the wall, looking at the ceiling then back at River.
"You alright?" He asked again, sitting in front of me on the bathroom floor.
"Yeah... I think..." I said, my voice still a little raspy from just waking up. He stood back up and reached out both of his hands to me. I gladly took them and stood up. I felt a little better but my head was still pounding.
"How you feeling?" He asked, putting the back of his hand in my forehead.
"Like shit..." I mumbled. He gave a slight chuckle at my answer.
"Well I'll be downstairs. Come on down when you're ready." He smiled and walked out of the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.
