I am the "bad kid." Well, that's what everyone else says about me anyway. The principal said you need service hours to quote on quote, "Be a better person and learn responsibility" So, to get those hours, I have been given the job of providing the new student a tour around the school and catching him up with the curriculum. I sit in the office and lean back in my chair, waiting for the new kid to finally show up. Starting to regret taking this offer up.
Soon, a blond kid comes in. I can tell it's bleached but it looks good. He looks at me and I'm greeted with a dazzling pair of blue eyes. He gives me a small wave and a shy smile. I roll my eyes and give him a forced smile.
"I'm Niall! It's nice to meet you...uh" he says and offers his hand for a handshake. I stand up and brush past his handshake.
"Y/N..." I say in a monotone and bored voice. I look at him, and I can see the slight sadness printed of his face. I can't help but feel guilty. I mean he was just trying to be nice. I shake my head and ignore the slight feeling of guilt. "Come on, pretty boy, I want to get this stupid tour done with"
His eyes flash and he looks somewhat taken aback by my remark, but he composes himself quickly. He clears his throat and speaks in a gentle Irish accent.
"I see I'll have to get used to that sort of comment around here..." He says, half-joking.
"Yeah..." I say and roll my eyes. I start to walk out of the office. "You coming or what?"
He follows along after me, a half-smile on his face. It's clear he's not that impressed with my attitude towards him, but he's trying to keep things polite.
"So, how do you like this school, if you don't mind me asking?" He asks, trying to make conversation with you.
"It's fine I guess...I just don't like school" I say and cross my arms and start to lead him through the halls and explaining what classroom is which
"Not a fan of school, eh?" He asks, giving you an impish grin. "I assume you're not the best student here either?"
That's none of your business..." I say and look away. I mean he's not wrong but I'm not gonna admit it.
He raises an eyebrow, and his smile fades a little. You were definitely going to give him a hard time on this tour... He chuckles. "Touchy, touchy. I was just joking. I can see you're a little sensitive."
"I *am* not sensitive..." I grumble. I continue to lead him through the halls "just drop the subject, please"
He chuckles again, taking note of how easy it is to annoy you and how quickly you get fired up. "Okay, okay." He says with a mockingly apologetic tone. "I'll stop."
"So this is Mrs Adam's classroom and our last classroom..." I say and motioned to a classroom door with bold black letters saying 'welcome to a world or learning'
"Interesting..." He says curiously, looking at the sign. He tilts his head to the side and peers at you. "I must admit, that was the most enthusiasm I think I've seen from you so far."
His little statement causes me to laugh and I look at him with a half smile
This caught him off guard. He was expecting you to go into a heated rant, not laugh. He chuckles too though, and grins. "Wow. You can laugh too? I was starting to think you weren't human"
"Oh would you shut up" I say as a grin tugs on the corner of my lips. I try to suppress a giggle. I wasn't gonna admit it but his laughter is contagious
His grin grows when he notices that he actually made you laugh. "So, you're not always grumpy then? Do I have to make a wish or something to get you to stop you from being grumpy?" He says, still teasing you.
I roll my eyes and start leading him back to the office. The tour was technically done.
"Oh now we're back to being in a bad mood again, eh?" He says, noticing your change in demeanor after just a few minutes."I'll bet you won't laugh again, miss serious over here."
I roll my eyes and suppress a grin. Me and him head back to the office and before I can refuse he pulls me into a hug. I feel him slip something in my back pocket
"Call me later, yeah?" He whispers in my ear before letting me go and walking out of the school. I was stunned. Did he hit on me? I let out a small chuckle and reach for the thing he put in my back pocket. I pull out a small piece of paper with his number on it. I smile. Maybe this won't be that bad of a year after all
