Years had passed since the incident with that boy. I sat at my vanity, brushing through my hair, wondering where this boy was now. Perhaps he was dead. No... I don't like that thought. Though, I'm sure papa would like it.

I don't know why I was still worried about that boy I met when I was 9. It's been 10 years, I'm grown, 19. Today was my 19th birthday. Papa was going to expand the gates further but I didn't like that. That would mean my boy would have less space to live.

My boy? What am I thinking? He's a boy. Why do I care for a boy? Nothing makes sense anymore.

My thoughts are interrupted by my royal guard knocking on my door softly. I was never allowed to see his face, only papa knew his face. Papa tells me it's for my safety.

"M-miss Fern?" His soft voice, containing a small rasp, stutters. My guard was always a bit shy around me. I never understood why, I still don't understand.

"I told you to stop addressing me with miss, didn't I?" I chuckle, allowing him inside. His tall and broad figure was one of delight. I still remember the day my papa hired him.

It was only a few days after the incident when papa decided that a boy, only 12 years old, would guard me. He said it's be best since he'd understand me most. I never understood that until now.

"Sorry mi- Alice. I'm sorry Alice." I could never see his face but something told me he was wearing a bright smile right about now.

"Sir. Fern has told me that your breakfast is awaiting you downstairs." The guard leaned towards my ear. "Your favorite." His whisper tickled my skin.

I felt a smooth flush rush to my cheeks as the feeling of a smirk crept onto his lips. I watched as his tall figure slowly walked downstairs. I followed, lifting my soft dress to allow me to walk without tripping.

My dress was rather one of beauty. It had belonged to my mother before she sacrificed herself to allow our village to thrive. She was the reason papa built the gates. My mama had ventured too far and almost got every basoph killed.

Papa and I never blamed her for it but others did. Others hated mama. I will never understand exactly why but my mama was a hero. She might've made a mistake but that allowed us basophs to learn and grow. My mama didn't make a mistake, she made a sacrifice.

The basophs have moved on, thankfully, but I still get old bags shouting at me throughout the streets. My royal guard doesn't like it much.

Once I arrived downstairs, I was met with my favorite breakfast. Pancakes topped with strawberries with a side of eggs and two, well cooked, pieces of bacon. The aroma filled the house.

"Please, my dear, sit." Papa smiled, sitting opposite from me. He was rather old now. His beard had grown lengths, full of wisdom. His hair was like mine, long and wavy. I always got told I look like my mother, but papa says otherwise. I've never seen mama, not even a simple picture.

My royal guard pulled my chair for me and I took a seat. My royal guard stood behind me as I enjoyed my meal. "So, Alice, I think you're mature enough to see your guard." My heart pounded.

I would see my guard? I hoped his face would be as handsome as I imagined. That's when papa interrupted. "Not until the end of the day, though. I want that excitement you have currently to allow you to thrive throughout today." Papas smile had stayed the same through these years.

I wanted to complain but I couldn't. Papa had a good reason so I stayed quiet and agreed but I couldn't wait for the day to end.

"Royal guard, please, take my Alice to venture out! Show her the gate now!" Papa declared. I finished my meal and excitedly held onto my guard's bicep. "Stay safe my dear Alice." Papa wished me off.

Me and my guard spent the day exploring throughout town. Itw as very lovely today. The sun was beaming on the town whilst the breeze kept the people cool. My guard picked me these beautiful roses.

"They remind me of you... Beautiful." My guard whispered as I accepted the roses one by one. They slowly turned into a beautiful bouquet.

Once the sun set, the guard took me back to our home. I went to my room to place my bouquet neatly in a case and change. Once I was laid comfortably into bed, my papa and guard entered my room.

"My Alice... I hope that your guard will be all you've ever wished for. Maybe, just maybe, I'll let you marry him someday." Papa chuckled. I let out a small giggle, the thought allowing a soft blush to run over my cheeks.

Papa gave my guard a nod before leaving the room. My guard slowly walked over, kneeling beside my bed. I've never gotten this close. I could hear his panting beneath his helmet.

"Oh my... How do you breathe in there?" I asked him with a chuckle. His head tilted up to me with a giggle and shrug. As I placed my hands on his helmet, I could hear his breathing become panicked.

Once I had the helmet held in my lap, I saw that he also had a black cover. I chuckled, feeling his heat as I slipped the cover off. My heart stopped.

The boy from all those years ago was kneeled in front of me. I couldn't believe it. I cupped his face. God he was so sweaty. As I held his face, beads of sweat rolled down from his hair and onto my palms.

I watched his veiny hand rustle his hair, sweat flinging around. "Hey!" I giggled. His smile was bright. I was shocked to see how much his smile had changed. His teeth weren't yellow anymore, they were now bright and white. Pearl colored. His eyes had remained the same, beautiful hazel. And his hair still looked so lovely.

"Please, don't tell your father that I am a sylver." The boy whined. I shook my head. How could I betray him like that? He had guarded me ever since that day. I refused to let him leave my side.

"But oh, would you tell me your name?" I pleaded. His head nodded softly. "Vincent, I am Vincent Glean." He panted. Vincent was such a dreamy name, suiting for his dreamy eyes. His face had remained the same soft shape I fell in love with.

"I must take a shower, dear Alice." *he stood up slowly, my hands removing from his face. "Show me." I demanded. He stared at me, confused. "Show me what you look like naturally." My breath was quaking with fear but excitement.

He grew in height, his skin turned into that familiar pale blue with black stained head and hands. His eyes turned into that pitch black glare but his teeth were now sharper and his fangs were more apparent.

Seeing those fangs somehow turned me on. I can't exactly describe what I felt. Perhaps this feeling was forbidden to be felt. Oh I was breaking so many fuels but it felt so good.

His hair was more full as well and his figure hovered over my bed. He had to be at least 7 feet tall now. I felt heat rush throughout my whole body.

"Am I spooky?" His voice stayed the same. His smile returned. I shook my head, standing up. "Oh my... I must ask, how tall are you?" The question leaped from my lips.

"I'm... 7'10 right now." His face was covered with embarrassment. Was he seriously embarrassed of who he was? Is this what our world has come down to?

I couldn't allow him to be embarrassed of who he was. I tugged onto his uniform, pulling him closer to me. He moved his faced down to meet mine. Our noses touched. I could feel his breath.

I rushed my lips against his. He tasted of honey. That taste became addicting. I craved more and more. Until he pulled away.

"Y'know, Alice, my dear... This would be much easier to do if I took my basoph form... " He chuckled and panted. I nodded with a giggle as well. He went back to his regular height, those dreamy eyes came back, his teeth shrunk slightly, those fangs being the only sharp ones.

He was quick to resume our kiss, hands grasping my waist as he pulled me closer. My hands slapped onto his chest. I didn't wanna pull away. His chest was so broad. His build was rather one of perfection. I had heard the men talk about my guards build before but never fully understood why. I get it now.

I want his build. Not as one of my own, but as one I can say is mine. I want him to be mine.
