"Ian I've been working around predators my whole life." Olivia sighed as they walked through the forest. "I mean, the lions don't vacate the area when you have a fossil dig in Africa."

Ian scoffed. "Yeah ok what predators have you worked around digging up dinosaurs?"

"Lions, snakes, coyotes... you." She said the last part quietly but Ian still heard it.

"I wasn't trying to be an ass." He said, looking down at her.

She rolled her eyes. "I know you weren't trying. Being an ass just comes naturally to you."

She looked at him, waiting for a reply. He had none, instead he continued walking. What surprised her though was the small smile that tugged at the corner of his lips.

"So what exactly is Hammond trying to get you to prove on your little safari?" He asked. "That dinosaurs are gentle giants or that I'm a major dick?"

"Both." Olivia smiled. She sighed as Ian sat on the log in front of her, placing his head in his hands.

"Do tell what research is being done here, Dr. Grant." He smiled at her and batted his eyes.

She almost laughed but managed to hold back the grin. "Well, Dr. Malcolm.... John asked me to prove his theory that dinosaurs are not "rogue monsters" and that they will not abandon their young. Specifically T-Rex."

"Mhmm," Ian nodded, "and how do you plan on doing that?"

"Filming a mother and her baby in the wild." She shrugged.

Ian's eyes bugged out of his head and he quickly grabbed her arm before she could turn and strut away. "You plan on getting close enough to film a T-Rex?"

"Yes." Olivia snapped, yanking her arm from him.

"Absolutely not." Ian shook his head. "You'll get yourself killed."

"For fucks sake Ian, you can't stop me." She sighed.

"Uh no, but I can tell you how crazy you are." He raised his eyebrows.

"Please, you've done a good job of that already." She scoffed, turning to walk away.

"Fire!" Eddie was running towards the two. "Dr. Malcolm there's a fire at base camp!"

Olivia and Ian looked at one another before rushing off towards the camp. When they got there Nick was pouring water on the fire.

"No." Olivia shook her head. "Water makes smoke billow, use dirt." She began to kick dirt onto the fire.

"Who started the fire?" Ian looked around, realizing everyone who could have started the fire had been with him looking for Olivia.

"I just wanted to make dinner." Olivia turned to see Kelly standing in the camper. "I wanted it to be ready when you guys got back. Yeah."

"Kelly, what the hell!?" Olivia and Ian both yelled in unison.

"You cannot be out here." Olivia said, rushing over to her.

"What were you thinking?" Ian asked, by her side immediately.

Kelly didn't answer, only looking from her father to his ex girlfriend. She raised her eyebrows, realizing why he had come in this trip.

"This is awkward."

—————

"Dad, you practically told me to come here." Kelly sighed. She was laying on the hood of the truck. Ian and Olivia were trying to phone the mainland.

"I- I what?" Ian asked, exasperated.

"You said, don't listen to me. I thought you were trying to tell me something or-"

"Kelly, Kelly, Kelly." Ian shook his head. "You knew exactly what I was talking about. You have no idea..." He sighed, looking to Olivia. "Help."

"No sir." She shook her head. "You're the one who keeps her locked up. Away from the curiosity."

"Thank you, Liv." Kelly smiled.

"Hey!" Ian looked between the two of them. "Don't start the teaming up thing about this."

"Ian, I'm not saying she should have come here I'm just saying... it was gonna happen eventually." Olivia smiled at Kelly.

"You're supposed to be on my side here." Ian groaned.

"Nope."

Ian just sighed. "Eddie... uh, tell me why the hell this thing never works?" He asked, waving the phone.

Olivia just rolled her eyes, walking over to pack her bag. "The kind of documentation Hammond wants requires all this..." she looked around at all the equipment Eddie and Nick had. "All this shit. We've got to get as close to the animals as safely possible."

"Yeah that's a great idea, and while you're at it why don't you smear yourself in sheep's blood." Ian commented, dragging Kelly past the group. "Eddie. Is there any reason to think that the radio in the trailer might work?"

"Ian yes-"

"Don't tease me I don't wanna get my hopes up."

"What the hell is your problem?" Olivia turned to look at him, hands on her hips. She heard Nick and Eddie get really quiet really fast.

"Well Liv, my daughter is sneaking out to forgotten islands, and my girlf- you... you have a death wish." He rambled.

Olivia noticed his slip up but decided not to say anything. "We can handle ourselves. Go home." She sighed, turning away from him.

"Planned on it." He mumbled, walking away. "I just have to figure out how to get you home to."

Olivia didn't hear him, but Kelly sure did. "Still in love dad?"

"You're still grounded."
