Together the large group walked through the forest, making their way to the middle of the island. The whole time Ian had a death grip on both Kelly and Olivia's hands.
One of the men walked past the three of them. "Say I haven't had a chance to wish you luck on your new business adventure. You're off to a promising start." Ian said.
"My team is intact Doctor, I'm sorry for the loss of your man. It's very easy to criticize someone who generates an idea, assumes all the risks-"
"When you try to sound like Hammond... it's sounds like a hustle. It's not your fault you know they say talent skips a generation. So uh, I'm sure your kids are gonna be sharp as tacks." Ian smirked.
"Hammond reach exceeds his grasp... mine does not." He countered.
"Taking dinosaurs off this island is the worst idea in the long sad list of bad ideas and I'm gonna be there when you learn that." Ian said pointedly.
Olivia chuckled. "These are just the kind of people Muldoon would have loved to... well never mind." Ian snorted.
"You know Muldoon?" The man looked at her. "Robert Muldoon! God I haven't heard from him in years, how is the old codger?"
Olivia's eyes darkened. "He's dead."
"Really? How?"
She shrugged, pulling Ian and Kelly to walk faster. "Velociraptor ate him. I was there."
They continued their journey through the night and into the morning. Finally Roland called for a five minute break.
Ian sat down, pulling Kelly to lay her head in his lap. Olivia brushed some hair out of the girls face, watching as she instantly fell asleep.
"She's exhausted." She sighed, looking at Ian.
"So are you." He smiled, wiping some blood off of her brow. "Something cut you, right on your forehead."
Olivia chuckled. "It doesn't hurt. My arm does though."
"Which one?" Ian asked, looking her over.
"The one I broke at the park. You know when Rexy flung me against the car." She chuckled, rolling up her sleeve.
Ian looked at the familiar scar from where rhetorical doctors out pins to help her bones heal. "It still flares up sometimes huh?" He asked.
"Only when my life is being threatened by dinosaurs." She grinned. "What about your leg?"
"Mhmm." He nodded. "When I use it too much." He looked at her. "Like right now."
"You should be grateful Malcolm." Olivia nudged his shoulder. "Shared trauma, it's what makes us so good."
Ian nodded, looking down at his sleeping daughter. "When we broke up, she threatened to kill me. Told me that you weren't the only heart I broke when we split."
She smiled. "I love that little girl." She sighed.
"Like a daughter?" Ian asked, cocking an eyebrow.
She nodded. "I think so. I know I'm not her real mom but... those calls she would make to me in those six months we were apart were the only thing keeping me from breaking down. She's right though, I didn't just loose you when we broke up I lost her to. And I love her."
"She loves you too." Ian assured her. "That's why I know she'll be excited when you agree to marry me."
"What?" Olivia looked up at him, her heart racing.
"Don't worry I'm not proposing right now... but maybe when we get out of here and I can buy a ring. Maybe you'd say yes." He smiled.
"Maybe I would." She smiled back, leaning up to kiss him. "Maybe I'd even move back in with you."
He laughed. "That is part of marriage, living together you know."
"Maybe not I've enjoyed having a bed to myself recently." She teased.
Ian just shook his head, wrapping his arm around Olivia's shoulders. "When we find a phone I'm calling your brother."
"Why?"
"So I can cuss him out."
