glee club had been started less than one week ago and the entire club sucked. hazel didn't like to be pessimistic but they weren't even allowed compete at any competition with their lack of members. if her parents gave a damn about her, she would've moved schools by now.

"can you move your gigantic head out of my way?" quinn pressed her pencil into hazel's back, drawing her out of her misery over glee club. she'd been stuck sitting in front of quinn in math class for years, no matter how hard she'd try to escape her, quinn always ended up in the exact same seat. she wouldn't bother her if her other cheerios - brittany s. pierce and santana lopez weren't with her but whenever they were around, quinn felt the need to lash out. "can you get fucked?" hazel spun around, responding quietly enough that their teacher wouldn't overhear while she smiled sweetly at her. quinn full force gasped, hazel rolled her eyes in response before turning back around in her chair.

"what a freak," she heard quinn mutter to the girls beside her, both of them murmuring in agreement. the thing about the cheerios was that once hazel had learnt to ignore them, they really weren't as scary as she had once thought. sure they were annoying and incredibly mean but hazel had stopped caring about other peoples opinions on her a long time ago. being at mckinley had actually given her a thick skin, it was the one pro of being at a school where you were scrutinised for being different.

"ok, so we're going to add someone into the mix and see how it goes," mr shuester patted finn hudson on the back before practically pushing the quarterback up onto the stage. kurt and hazel's mouths dropped open in synchronised shock. glee club was not for people like finn hudson who stood by and watched his friends throw kurt and many other unfortunate students into the garbage every morning.

"no," hazel shook her head, the attention in the auditorium turning to her. "do you even want to be here?" finn shifted uncomfortably for a moment before shrugging. "hazel," mr shuester cleared his throat. "you don't get to decide who's in glee." hazel knew that this was not going to work out, jocks did not join glee club. especially the quarterback. if any of finn hudson's teammates found out that he was currently in the auditorium with the glee kids, they'd all be screwed. hazel could take a certain amount of slushies to the face but taking one for finn hudson was not on her list. and it was also becoming very apparent that mr shuester expected finn to become the next star of glee club which completely ruined hazel's chances of being in the spotlight. it had been bad enough with the six of them vying for the spotlight, this extra addition pushed her further down the list and she didn't like it.

"no i guess not," hazel took a step backwards. "but i can decide whether i'm in it or not." she turned and walked off the stage, ignoring the way everyone's eyes were on her. she pulled open the auditorium door and walked out into the hallway, hearing the opening of "you're the one that i want" start to play as she let the door slam shut behind her. "you finally get some sense?" quinn asked. the blonde was leant against the lockers beside her, she was completely blocking hazel's locker which was either a coincidence or yet another attempt at being bitchy.

"what?" hazel narrowed her eyes at the blonde. "running out of loser club?" quinn raised a brow. "probably the smartest decision you've ever made." hazel tilted her head slightly, it was becoming obvious that quinn fabray did not currently know her boyfriends whereabouts and hazel was about to take great pleasure in telling her. "no i quit because your boyfriends in there stealing the spotlight," hazel bit back a smug smile. "sure," quinn nodded. "of course he is." hazel gestured towards the auditorium doors. "see for yourself princess."

"was that supposed to be an insult?" quinn laughed. "are you good at anything?" she pulled open the auditorium door softly before stepping halfway in, keeping her hand on the door behind her. hazel unlocked her locker, trying not to look overly interested in quinn's reaction. the slam of the auditorium door was enough of a signal for hazel that quinn fabray was not happy. "awh-" hazel's comment was cut off the blonde storming straight past her like she wasn't even there, the noise of her shoes echoing around the halls.

hazel rolled her eyes before she grabbed her textbooks and made her way out of the school. she walked home most days, she liked to wait around an extra ten or fifteen minutes after school ended, most days she stayed back for glee club anyways but she liked to be one of the only students still around. it was always quieter and more peaceful, she wasn't heckled at and people didn't throw stuff at her. it was just her and her thoughts.

her dad used to pick her up from school before he had left them and started a new family. she'd come out of school everyday until she was thirteen to find her dad waiting for her, music blaring from his car. she was considered weird back then too, with her dads old taste in music and his old car but she never really cared much. and then one day he just never turned up, she'd had to walk home where her mother was a wreck and instantly blamed hazel for everything. because she had never wanted children, so hazel's existence ruined everything for her.

hazel had never had a great relationship with her mom but she did have one with her dad. now she never heard from him minus a birthday card where he regularly got her age wrong. she supposed he had other things to worry about, what with having a 3 year old and a 2 month old to provide for. hazel had two half-siblings that she would probably never meet because no one had ever cared enough about her to include her in anything.

and as much as she would like to not care about that, it kept her up at night sick with worry that no one would ever want to keep her around.
