"I can't believe your parents gave you a house." Keyanna took in the vaulted ceilings and marble floors.
"Me either. Do you have what I asked for?"
"Yes, I dressed in all black to get it." Her outfit choice wasn't just black. Her shoes, purse and jewelry matched.
"What? Why?" I laughed.
"The last thing I need is a picture of me buying a pregnancy test from Walgreens in the tabloids. I'd be dead. I hate the paparazzi." Keyanna's dad would never forgive her. She has everything she needs, but her family expects her to be perfect. She's a Wilmington so, perfection comes naturally to her.
"Well thanks..." I walked into the bathroom. My best friend followed behind me. "You are not coming in here with me."
"I literally did all the hard work while you hid in your brand new house." She stated.
"Whatever." I replied as Keyanna stood on the other side of the door. I held the test in my hand, but I was too nervous to take the next step. "I can't do it."
"Sapphire, pee on the damn stick."
I managed to do what needed to be done. I washed my hands laying the pregnancy test down next to the sink then walked away.
"What does it say?" Keyanna's face showed the worry I felt.
"Will you look?" I felt like we were back in the ninth grade. We had a science project that I put my heart into, but I was terrified to look at my final grade. Keyanna flipped the paper over without flinching. We both celebrated my ninety-two.
"Sure..." I watched as she examined the stick. "Fuck." Her pupils widened.
"No." My heartbeat increased ten-fold.
"It could be worse. You could be a broke baby mama. At least you're rich." She of all people should know I'm not rich, my parents are.
"He has a brother if you want to be miserable with me."
"Hell no." Keyanna responded quickly.
"Exactly. My dad just came home. Do you think he wants to hear that his twenty year old daughter is pregnant."
"I hate to say it, but he's going to be super pissed. I can barely believe it." Keyanna added.
"I know." I sank down to the floor.
"Don't worry. If you need anything, I'm here. I won't tell anyone."
"Thank you." I huffed.
"Are you going to tell Nico?" She questioned.
"Yes, I just have to figure out a way to tell my parents first."
Nico doesn't have children and doesn't seem to want any.
"You should definitely tell Nico sooner than later. You don't want him to be caught off guard when your dad tries to end him."
"You're right."
"Are you going to keep the baby or do something else?"
"Yeah, I think so. I can't picture doing anything else." I replied. I already knew I couldn't have an abortion or give my baby up for adoption.
She went to answer my ringing doorbell. "Food's here."
As I walked to the kitchen I repeatedly told myself that I could manage. I can go to school and get a real job if my parents or Nico didn't agree with my decision to keep the baby.
